Help!!

I just purchased CIV III today and am eager to get to civilizing!

After installing and upgrading w/ the patch, I begin to run the game and the intro movie comes up fine and then afterwards, the screen goes to black and in a blue tinted message-box the message "SELF-DIAGNOSIS
PC DISPLAY SETTINGS
CORRECT?"

appears. I hear the music/sound affects in the background, but try as I may, nothing else will happen, I cannot even ctrl-alt-del out of it(just lost an english assignment because of this).

My cpu meets all of the req, excelling in all but my pII is only 350mhz(a lil slow). All of my drivers are up to date and I have no idea of what to do. I also have my display settings in the ctrl panel set to the correct setting, so that's not it.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE....Someone help me out. I'd appriciate it!

Thanks 4 reading,
clay

The monitor probably isn't using the correct driver, so Windows thinks your monitor can handle a higher refresh rate than it actually can. Civ III tries to run at the highest refresh rate that Windows says is available, and this causes the monitor to flip out.

Get the v1.16f patch, and read the readme.txt file. It explains how to manually set the refresh rate to a lower setting in the civilization3.ini file, which should solve your problems.

Here's the thing w/ your advice.....

After starting the game up and going through the movie and having to shutdown my computer after recieving the annoying message of SELF-DIAGNOSIS PC DISPLAY SETTINGS CORRECT?

There is no civilization3.ini file created!!

I've run the patch, with no triumph of my problem....

So, can you(or anyone else) think of what I can do??

Thanks 4 any help!

Never having gotten past the splash screen, I don't think an ini file has been created. I can't find anything that matchs ci*.ini anywhere on my system other than the Civ2 ini file.

Me either. There's some sort of Civ3 Config file, but i dont believe that's a ini file. I was under the impression that it would be created after i ran the game, but i cant get past the 1st movie and there's nothing created as a ini file.

i'd appreciate any help or even a copy of the ini file, maybe i could create it myself and maybe that'd work.

thanks
