Settlement Plan

Eh.. we are nowhere near optics so I think that can wait for a while. Other equally good spots should be settled first.
We don't necessarily have to be miles away from a different continent. For all we know a trireme can cross the water gap.

There will be oceans and a galley can't cross it unless the cultural borders expand sufficiently. This is a continents map, and oceans are usually too wide for that to happen.

We should fill our own continent first anyway.
For a new settlement plan, please see the Strategic Junction thread.

The only problem is that thread has mainly discussions on peaceful and warring options whereas this thread contains more discussion on new city sites. Ideally, all dotmaps should be posted here for easily reference, instead of all over the place.

Order: City A, Banana city, Ivory City, Fishing Village, Plantation City, GP farm, City X

France will probably settle Plantation City before we get to it, with that order.

How about moving Banana City 2N and building it first, with the objective being to secure the dyes and deny the iron to Caesar. Another city could then be built further south to get bananas, later in the order.

Alternate order: DyesIronSteal, City A, Ivory, ... (the rest depend on neighbor expansion)

A city 2N of the bannana location seems to be in too much cultural conflict with the German and Roman cities nearby

I agree with doing banana's first. Dave's city has too much cultural pressure though.

That's the whole point of putting it there. Should we just give up on the resources it would gain, or assert our dominance? I say that as peaceful warriors, we should not be passive, but take the land we want.

Is that city with the rice the plantation city? Can't see it in the screenshot and don't have the save with me now.

The city on the last screenshot with 2 dyes, silk (or something else, I can never keep these resources apart) and rice is the plantation city.

Banana City
Ivory city and city A can be replaced by the barbarian city.
So Fishing Village next?

Note: The Germans have settled Cologne in near our proposed cities, we might have to hurry.

I request that before we settle any cities we first vote on where we want to settle. This vote should apply to the two existing settlers.

Before we build additional settlers I suggest we first discuss and vote on whether that's desirable. Settlers are expensive, and using one to build a "fishing village" seems a waste at this stage of the game. I understand why we might want to grab land before Germany or Rome do. However, I'd much rather let them go to the expense of settling and developing the land so that later we can annex it when our economy can support it.

Seeing that the Germans have founded a number of cities in our proposed build area, and our economy is struggling at the current time I think we should look at the settlement plan again and come up with some new ideas.

Here's what I propose, we should use the two settlers we have now, but we should not build another settler, we already have huge maintenance costs and can't support many more cities. If we decide not to build more settlers our priority should be to fill in our territory, rather than building aggressively close to the Germans. We don't want the other civs founding cities behind our lines, making future wars more difficult. Therefore I think the ideal locations for settlement are on our south eastern shore near Equus Aurrum.

Here's a photo of the proposed locations

Why not move the southern city 1N so it takes the horses, and the northern city some more north along the coast, so it grabs the lake (lake + lighthouse is lots of food :))
