Should I Buy Warlords?

Simply put...
no...
the scenario's are not that great, and they are the only thing Warlords has that Bts doesn't!

If you already have Bts or Gold, Warlords is useless, but the Intro music is AWESOME!!!

^Which you can experience in:
Graphics Options:
Menu: Warlords.
So no, it's not worth it unless your a modder who wants some more menus with animated polies on them to work with. (in the scenarios)

Menu: Warlords.
You can use the Warlords main menu in BtS by going to Advanced main menu then click Warlords. The only thing good in Warlords is the Scenarios but if you have BtS you might beable to play them still because I'm planing on updating and remaking them.

I just faced this same issue. I got BtS and (different from you and many others) hated it for the state terror of spies poisoning water, burrning cities, eliminating cultural defense in one easy blow, destroying the landscape, even when you have your own spies posted everywhere, and you have to build numerous anti-spy improvements; plus the avidity for nuclear war and subsequent global warming, which I always (cheated in past Civ versions to keep it out of the game), plus the unrealistically powerful airships. So I just this week got Warlords, because what I really wanted was more of the old familiar Civ leaders. Trouble is, BtS also had some very cool features and graphics, and it's hard to accept playing again without them. Warlords does very little to improve the play of vanilla Civ4 and may actually make it less fun (not completely sure yet). Really disappointing in Warlords is the new Alexander scenario, which is nowhere near as interesting as the original Greek World mod, which has a realistic diversity of enemies and barbarian hordes threatening the homelands while you're off fighting in the East. Probably I will go back to vanilla Civ4 until Civ5 comes out.

The problem with the BTS is it is hugely unbalanced and full with bugs. Of course there are many good things in it too but for myself I will wait at least for 6 months before getting BTS.

Much of the unbalenced parts of the game and the bugs are going to be patched, you might want to at least see if that fixes the problems you've heard of. For me at least I'm enjoying civ4 much more with bts then I was with Warlords, which wasn' worth the money then to buy, not to mention now.

I may have found the solution to the bad expansions to Civ4 by Firaxis: the Total Reality mod available on the forum here by a very ambitious and gracious team who offer it for free. The reviews in the forum are all glowing. I installed it last night and - wow! - just what I have always wanted in Civ. Not just another "game" but a complex civ experience. I haven't played it yet enough to get the full feel, but I recommend taking a look for it. Very very impressive.

You should buy warlords, it is definetly worth the money.

If you are planning to play a Warlords game (such as a Warlords Game of the Month-WOTM) you will need the Warlords disk. Other than that, no I wouldn't buy Warlords only for the scenarios.

I have played a lot of the Total Realism mod, based on Warlords, since my last post. The mod can be downloaded at www.civ4.houmie.com - and a forum for it is available at www.civ4.houmie.com/forum/index.php

The concepts and graphics in the mod are fantastic, but after playing many different ways, I found the AI pretty pathetic, unable to keep up with the added complexities. Still, it's worth the experience and one good reason to buy Warlords.

I have since gone back to play Warlords, which I had not done yet, and find it has a lot of the cool things I wanted added to Civ4 - great generals, added leaders, and some nice new units. Not too ambitious, but still a worthwhile advance, without the terrorist spies, avid nuclear weapons, and ridiculous airships that Beyond the Sword added, which completely ruined Civ4 for me. So ... Warlords is worth trying, I think, at least until Civ5 appears or an improved AI in Total Realism appears, which could overcome any other option.

Nope, you've got pretty much everything in warlords covered with BTS. I have both but that's only because I bought warlords when it first came out. If I was to do it over now, i'd skip warlords.

Not unless you want to try the scenario's of which I think only the Genghis Khan and the Chinese unification are any good.:( :( :( ;)
