I was just about to pre-order until I hesitated. The Digital Edition at Direct2Drive had Babylon but it didn't include the Soundtrack or Artbook and those goods...

Is it impossible to get the benefits of both in one package?

See this thread for a complete comparison of the different editions.

Indeed you cannot get the Special Edition with Babylon (at least not until Babylon is released as DLC, which btw is not confirmed).

The Deluxe Edition does include the soundtrack (as download).
The Steam edition at least has digital version of the soundtrack and artbook.
I guess you mean the Deluxe Edition. What is "Steam" Edition? The Regular download edition doesn't contain these extras. And where did you read that the Deluxe edition could contain a digital copy of the art book ?!? That's not written anywhere I can see.

The D2D Digital Deluxe has the soundtrack, video, Babylon, Civ III, and First Premium DLC with 2 Civs and Scenario Pack.

I thought that the Steam Deluxe edition has Babylon as well.
It does. See thead links posted above.
What about the later releases of DLC then?
What about it? Your ability to buy DLC isn't impacted at all by the choice of where you buy the game from. Whichever way, your game is linked to your Steam account and you can buy DLC wherever it's offered and download it through Steam.

Also if your willing to spend a few hundred dollars you can preorder at Gamestop and get the regular edition hardcopy, with a gtx 460 or 470, and and upgrade key for the steam deluxe edition.

Oh.... no problem there then.

I see the soundtrack is included after all in the Digital.

But the artbook, luxury box (what?), ;o; ...

I think I'm still leaning more towards the Digital Version. I really want Nebuchadnezzar II. Definitely not buying both versions. X_X

Anyone any idea what the luxury box is?

If I remember correctly, the D2D Deluexe edition has everything the Steam Deluexe edition has, sountrack and artbook included. Basically there selling you the Steam Deluxe CD-Key. So you get all of it, also you get the first DLC pack free, so cool.

Personally I'm getting the Regular (boxed) Edition and I'll pick up Babylon when it becomes available as DLC (assuming it does and not a big deal if it doesn't).

This was mentioned in this gamespot article in the last paragraph on page 2. (my emphasis)

Civilization V will arrive very soon in both a regular edition and in numerous different preorder editions, including a boxed collector's edition at retail stores and an online version on Steam. These two editions are largely similar; both will come with the game's soundtrack and an art book, except that the boxed collector's edition will have collectible figurines, while the Steam version will not have figurines but will instead have a scanned version of the art book, plus an exclusive new playable civ, Babylon.
