I want to buy a new card but don't really know what will work with this game. I've seen that ATI's cards seem to be a bit unreliable with this game and haven't seen any consistency on what will work.

Is there a list of work does and doesn't work? I'm also thinking of getting a new card and want to see what'll work with Civ IV, Black and White 2 and basically the most recent games.

Most bang for the buck right now would either be an Nvidia 6800GT* or an ATI x800XL*.

*The XL and GT parts of those are very important. The 6800 non gt is alot slower than the GT, and the x800 pro is the same, only 12 piplelines instead of 16.

Im running a GeForce 6600 GT works great.

I've got a GeForce 6800GT, and it doesn't run great. Has the skipping sound problems in the wonder movies. Running 81.85 drivers.

running ATI sapphire 9600 series

game refuses to load ;)

I said before: X800XL 256meg PCIe. Runs just fine.

Has anyone tried the Geforce 6200 512Mb at all? That's more within my price range than the 6600 GT. £100 vs £150 basically. That and I only have AGP 8x and PCI, the 6600 GT seems to only come in PCI-Express

My GeForce 4 MX440 64mb work fine as long you get that latest patch.

Note do not get that FX series; IE GeForce FX 5200 or simular models they dont work well in 3D games along with DirectX 9. They may be cheap but you will regret it.

It would help a lot if folk listed the drivers they are using with their cards. I suspect that it more likely to be specific drivers with cards that are causing problems.

Mine with the X800XL is Driver Version 8.162.0.0 File Version 6.14.10.0331 Driver date 8-3-2005.

Now it will crash IF I Alt-Tab out to anything and IF Norton Pops up to remind me to renew. That one really Burns My Shorts! But, to me those crashes are more the game's fault. Not the Drivers. CivIII I always Alt-Tab out to read email or whatever. Same with Guild Wars. Never a problem with those.

I bought the 6600 GT on Friday mine is AGP they had PCI version in the store also. so I dont know about England but AGP version are available here.

Well i just switched my card around, now i got that GeForce FX 5200 256mb with that newer 81.85 driver and it ran smooth even the movie. Sadly back then i couldnt find the right driver for that card with hundred of drivers, must been a nightmare for alot of ppls out there.

The reason i didnt use this card becuz it wont run Rome:Total War with any drivers. So i had to use my ol' GeForce 4 MX440 64mb.

After checking, the 6600 GT does come in AGP. Just most the stores here only sell the PCI-E version. X_x eBuyer seems to sell it though. Now I just have to decide between that and the Radeon X800GTO 126MB
