I did a check when after applying Soil, I saw one planet had 185. All the planets either had even numbers like 100 got 25 or were rounded up to next multiple of 5 (5.10,15,20,20 etc).

I had one of those rare planets that start with 120 and will get to size 300. I had +20, +30 so it was size 150. After Soil, it was 185? It should have been 180. 120 base, +30 terraform and +30 for Soil.

I have never seen a planet have more than 300, so I am guess ti will be capped. Finally tally should be 120 base, 120 complete, 30 Soil and if you have Adv Soil another 30. I wonder is the 185 is a normal miscalculation for Soil. I mean, does it add +35 regardless for any base 120 planet?

I guess I need to grab Orion and see how that goes or if it matters what other +terraforming you have at the time.

The planet did cap at 300, but I screwed up on Orion. It terraform too fast and I never saw any intermediate steps. It went from 120 to 300 one turn.

Slightly related: I overflowed Orion to 0 pop somehow (I was Psilon, Tech 99 all, on Simple), then I got the colony landing sequence for my transport, and a GNN news report that I had 'conquered Orion'.

So that 300 cap might not be working.

Not sure I followed the sequence. You sent a colony ship and found the colony. Then send over how many pop to Orion and got the 0?

I went back today and found a save before I hit Orion. This time I was carfeul not to apply too much to it and only got Soil added. It went from 120 to 155. It should have went to 150. Then I fully terraformed and it went to 300.

so it looks like the application of Soil to a base 120 world will get you 35 pop, rather than 30. I was not able to test to see if it is the Advance Soil or Complete terraform that corrects the final size.

I would bet it is a cap at 300, but I would need to have Complete and not Advance to see what happened.

I managed to replicate it.

I'm lvl 99 psilon with, afaik, the best techs. (complete)
Defeat Guardian.
Use standard colony ship on Orion.
Edit: Transfer a lot of reserve funds to Orion.
Send over 120 pop or so.
Full industry slider until max.
Then Eco to make new space.
Then Industry to fill the new space.
Then Eco again to populate up to 300 (no transports)
And it rolls around to 0.

Sending a new colony transport counts as 'conquering' Orion. I don't get to enter a name. I sent some 400 guys to repopulate, but it didn't overflow, so I'm guessing the overflow bug is linked to the Eco slider or something.

Got a save (let me know if you want it, it's the 'SAVE?.GAM' files right?) and screenshots. I think this must have happened to other people who amuse themselves with grinding up to L99 just to play with the space monsters. Also, if I kill the amoeba the same turn I 'retake' orion, then the news item is blank, due to some kind of 'also in the news' bug.

Is the save prior to doing Eco? There is a bug with any size 300 planet that it will not turn the eco back down after getting to full pop.

It's from before defeating the Guardian. There's also an Amoeba lurking about... I'll upload tomorrow, the save files are only 60kb it seems. Not sure whether the save files are, uh, encapsulated enough to be swapped though. I see 7 save files, but iirc there are only 6 slots, so maybe #7 is autosave.

Ok, I put the save up in the directory.

It seems the name of the saves is kept in another file, so my name won't show up. It's save #2.

I manged to replicate the bug again, following the list above (which I edited now).

Well I finally tested it. Not sure if any of this affected Orion or not. I stopped the spying as no value. I turned off the ship reloaction as no ships are being made. I send some ships to Orion.

I colonized Orion and I sent 118 pop to fill to 120. I terraformed to 300. I sent enough pop to get to 300. BTW Altair had the 300 bug, were it spend on eco after getting back to 300 pop.

I turned off eco on Orion and it stays at 300, no problems, so I send a fleet to end the game on the last bird planet.

No problem with 0 pop and I have never seen it.

The overflow/rollback seems to depend on extreme population growth (sponsored by extreme fund transfers). I managed to replicate the bug again, following my list above. (colonize, transfer all reserve funds and 118 pop, industry until it jumps down to tech, eco until it jumps back to ind, industry until it goes max (doesn't jump), eco)

If you need a fresh planet to experiment on, perhaps let the amoeba eat one. I think that lowers max pop though, making the planet too small for the 0 pop bug to appear.

I am not sure I followed the path. Once you finished Eco and all is put into Industry and finally it goes max, what is the Eco you tacked on to the end of the sentence? IIRC you had Waste tech so no Eco was needed, correct?

So no reason for any more to go into Eco, but if you manually put Eco in after pop 300, it does no harm. It just goes to clean and you waste the income.

As I type this, I am haunted by a fleeting though from years back, where I may have seen this bug. I am not sure, if that is a real flash or I am confusing this thread with it.

In any event, does not matter as if I waited till I have all planets, save one, then go to Orion, not uncommon. If it them went to zero, I would not care as the fleet is already on its way to the last planet.

IIRC

Full slider, Just keep hitting next turn. Never mind what's practical, just follow these steps to replicate the bug.

0 Transfer 35k or something funds and 118 POP
1 Full IND. It goes to MAX then jumps automatically down to TECH.
2 Full ECO I think it's just for one turn and it jumps automatically back up to IND. The planet is now terraformed but POP is not full.
3 So you continue until IND maxes out, but this time it doesn't jump, it just stays on MAX. Planet still doesn't have full POP.
4 You still don't have full POP, so now you Go full ECO to make POP.
5 bug

(I'm using v 1.3* or something, not sure.)

One thing for sure is that any base 120 planet needs to be watched when Eco is applied. Most games seem to have one planet other than Orion with base 120.

If I have one of them, I try to not use them for transporting pop as it is too easy to miss the factt hat they did not return to norm.
