Haven't you ever got mad about sea combat??? It seems like it should work just as land combat, but no rivers, no walls, no terrain bonus...so, it should be fairly simple to know when you are likely to win or not, but this is obviosly not true. Battleship often sink when atacking destroyers (18 Vs 8), Ironclads destroy carriers (4 Vs 8) with ease, and galleys are still a hard match for almost everything in the modern era...

It's just my point of view, or anyone else thinks same as me? I don't think land combat is so weird, even though I once lost a Veteran tank attacking an unfortified Longbowman down to 1 HP who was standing in a golf field after destroying another of my tanks:mad:

I want to see the Spanish in Civ III !!!!!! (and NOT with Aznar as their leader:D )

To wage a sea war its better to use bombard action very well ( maggellan wonder help).
an ex. i got a stack of 3 battleshipe, 2 will bombard 1 a.i.' s shipe and the third one will finish up the job.
why ? because i losted some veteran battleshipe against galleon, frigate which never happen in civ 2.
use carrier-fighter to increase sight.

Evincar, you are right.

I have complained from Day One about the PATHETIC way naval warfare is handled in Civ 3. It is worse than in Civ 2.

Firaxis also doesn't have the vaguest idea what privateers and subs really are for - attacking MERCHANT shipping on trade routes, not attacking enemy warships.

Culture Flipping nonsense; Settler Diarrhea; and pathetic naval warfare. Those are the three things that irritate me the most.

They key thing with water combat is that the A/D values are very similar across all the ages of ships. And remember that since you only have 3-5hps (depending on experience level), the weaker ship will win a decent amount of time. One thing to do would be to double/triple the HP of sea vessels to force more combat rounds.

stop complaining Civ3 wasn't designed to be realistic after all... It was designed to be fun so if you lost your little battleship to a galley it may be the will of God
