Hi,

Every time I play civ 5 a kind of urgent thought is returning to me regularly.
It is such an exciting idea that I've finally decided to register to this forum and share.

Has any of you ever thought about making a kind of space mod for civ?

A mod witch would bring a whole new experience with:
- dark blue space with stars as basic terrain (instead of plains, deserts, tundras.... etc)
- planets, moons, asteroids, nebulae (a special terrain types)
- colony ships (a replacement for settlers - a unit that would be able to create a city (or colony) only on planet terrain type)
- galaxies with star systems representing what is in normal game land mass
- intergalactic space representing what is in normal game sea and ocean
- units capable of moving within galaxies (replacement for land units) or in between them (replacement of naval units)

Wouldn't that be fascinating?

If you know master of orion or galactic civilization 2, you know, what I am talking about.

I made few search attempts but didn't find any mention about such a mod.
Have you ever heard about such an effort?

Ok, I hope I at least inspired some good mod creator :)

bye...

Anyone who knows how to (and is motivated to) create mods is doing so already, on their own designs. Ideas are plentiful, ways to implement them are not; there's an Ideas and Suggestions forum over off General Discussion where people post all sorts of ideas they've had about things they'd like to see in the game. Of course, none of the modders spend much time over there.

If you've got a mod you'd like to see, then you should learn how to make a mod and do it yourself. Alternatively, you could find an existing mod that does things similarly to what you're thinking, and see if you can help with the development of that project. But first, you'll need to learn what is and isn't possible with the tools we've been given, so that you'll know whether it's a discussion worth starting. (For instance: changing terrain graphics? Not possible at present.)

I did not wan't to suggest that to come with a great idea is the harder part of the job while the implementation of the mod is a peace o cake. On the contrary. I highly appreciate the work of people like you, who spent a lot of time with creating mods. I've been working in SW development for 10 years and perfectly understand the task.

eee.... I didn't know that :(
