Hey guys!

What is the best method for spaceship building? <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/confused.gif" border=0> I have mostly played multiplayer and have only built a spaceship a dozen times or so. Therefore, I don't have a lot of practice in this area. I always have to go to the manual when I build one because I can't remember how I did it before. Thanks ahead of time for your tips! :-)

Build components...launch ship.....

Thats about all I know

I don't participate in the space programs

Well there is no best way to build it - just make the 39 structural, 16 components and 12 modules and the launch it when the time is right!!!

Of cause you can rush buy some of the stuff if the AI is also getting close. They usually launch ASAP but if you have a complete SS and Fusion power then it only takes 11.7 years to reach AC.

Depends, as always, on the demands of the game. If you're the dominant Civ and there's no danger of a race, you can take a slightly different approach to when you're in serious competition to land.

In general, set high shield cities to build Modules, medium shield cities to build Components, the rest to build Structurals.

Do NOT click the Launch button at the first opportunity! Click it only when all the parameters are to your satisfaction.

If you're in a rush, set Science rate to zero, maintain whatever luxuries you need, and put the rest on Tax.

If you're in a real rush, go through all your cities one by one and sell the universities and use the cash to rush-build. If you're even more rushed, you can sell libraries, aqueducts, and sewage systems on subsequent passes, and even city walls if you dare. Also you can disband "surplus" military in cities to contribute to the builds.

Do not worry if your opponent launches first. Against the AI, it will launch ASAP and you should spend a few years extra in building a SS which can get there quicker. Your fastest possible ship will get there in 5 years (1+1+1 M, 8+8 C, 32 S, + Fusion).

You also have the option of building some SS bits before you have the tech for the rest.

Trade for missing techs. Steal them if you must.

If you have the time, always build a 4+4+4 Module SS for maximum points. Remember it's slower to build and slower to ge there.

If I think of anything else I'll add it!

Pay close attention to the production capacity of each city and make sure you use each city efficiently. On the surface, it takes twice as long to build a component as a structural and twice as long again to build a module. Not so!

A city with 70 shields available for production will make a structural in two turns; component in three; module in five.

Let's say you assign that city to structurals and another city with 80 shields available to modules. After twenty turns (slow, aren't we?), you'll have 10 structurals and five modules. You will have also wasted a lot of shields on the final turn of each of those structurals.

Now reverse the assignments so that the "70" city is creating the modules. After 20 years, you'll have four modules and twenty structurals.

Or mix it up a bit. For the first ten years, get the "80" city producing the 10 structurals and then switch it to produce two modules. Have the "70" city produce three modules in fifteen years. After eighteen years, we have our 10 structurals and our five modules and the "70" city has also cranked out three Howitzers while waiting . (Fast, aren't we?)

One more thought: those modules are big suckers so don't leave them too late. Nothing worse than having some city struggle to finish that last module while everyone else stands around watching. Proper planning will trim years off of your schedule.

Freight can be used to balance out production issues, too. On freight plus a 30-shield city equals one structural.

A twenty shield city plus 6 freight equals a module.

A ten shield city plus 3 freight equals a compenent.

In effect, you can "build" much of the SS long before space flight is even discovered!

With about 67 average cities (10 to 30 shields each) and 159 frieght, you can build a full SS in a single turn without spending gold.
