GoogleCiv 2.0.0 coming...
I'd like to propose a modmod idea based around the Empire of the Smoky Skies scenario.
I don't have a big problem with the game as such, but recently I've discovered that the 'civilizations' - the colours, city names and unique abilities - are very derivative from the default civilizations ingame, and it doesn't retain a realistic feel for me. I know it meant to be fictitious of course, but I don't get the feeling of building an empire in a Victorian era style of science fiction.
This is why I want to propose this idea; a redevelopment of the Empire of the Smoky Skies scenario, but to add a better realism to the game, I'd like to add some of the powers from the nineteenth century, specifically the industrial powers of the world, which for the most part is Industrial America and Europe, but I am open to other industrial nations. The idea is to develop a narrative that takes the idea of Smoky Skies and apply the technologies and policies into what was Earth in the nineteenth century, theorize and narrate the implications of such a history, and then apply the results as best as possible into the modmod.
I'm already taking measures and began reading the Civilopedia ingame to understand the narrative behind Smoky Skies that developed into the game now in Gods and Kings, understand the progression of the techs and units, and the backgrounds of the empires and leaders. The other problem I have is that despite the ease I hear from others about XML, I just can't understand how to work it out. So I am in a need for professionals, well not professionals as able modders, around the forums who have any interest in this idea, as well as artists.
But for the moment this is a theoretical idea, and my knowledge in Industrial history is very limited, so I'm also asking for people with a deep knowledge in this area as well to help with the creation of the narrative and development of the idea. I am a bit of a stickler for accuracy, so I do want to give this a proper go.
