starting with two settlers

That's alright, whenever you get to it is fine. Just knowing that it's possible and won't be a lot of work is good to know.

I don't know why but when starting as Roman on Earth I often get two settlers, not sure if any data can be read out by that. I got a feeling it is randomized but it increase depnding on your starting location... Romans on Earth got pretty much water around...maybe it depends how many other civilizations are close to you. But then again when I play the English on Earth I cannot remind myself ever having 2 settlers so the water thing is probably not a factor.

Look at the algorithm linked in the post 2 link.. On earth, the players starting in Europe is likely to start close to other civs and is thus fairly likely to start with 2 settlers.

Also, it is perfectly valid to start on a tile with a hut. You have to move off it an back on it to get it though. And if you build a city upon it, it is impossible to get at it unless the city is removed I think.. (At least I've seen AI cities on top of huts)
