I have a 5.1 Home theater system attached to my computer via analogue cables. I can watch DVD movies, and play other games HL2, CoD4, etc, without this happening. Whenever I load up civ 4, it disables the bass channel completely, so that whether it's the in-game music and effects, or if I'm playing music with a seperate media player, the bass comes through the satellite speakers instead of the sub. As soon as I quit the game, the sub comes back to life. It is also very noticable if I use a custom music folder with bass-y music, all the bass is redirected to the tiny satellite speakers instead of the sub. I have also noticed that if I close the game from the menu, there is a split second where the menu music will play through the bass as the application is closing. System setup:
Win 7 64-bit
HT Omega Striker 7.1
Magnavox 5.1 reciever attached w/ analogue cables
So far, I have tried every audio option in the game except mono & EAX, to no avail. I have both the "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" and "give exclusive mode applications priority" checked in the windows audio property, but toggling these didn't effect the problem either. I'm guessing this is going to come down to the way the audio system is coded in the game, and the only workaround would be some kind of mod or 3rd party app that will create the LFE channel regardless of the application producing the audio. I have already emailed my sound card manufacturer & waiting to hear back.
Any ideas?
