We've all seen the succession games in the Stories and Tales forum (if you haven't, go look) and know that they can be really interesting as a way of comparing playing styles/habits, etc. For those who don't know, each player plays 15 or so turns, and then sends it on to the next player. It keeps going 'round and 'round until we rule the world!

Sooo......let's have one for SMAC. We'll need 4-6 players, and if we get more, we can have two compteting teams. Sign up below!

Oh, and suggest a faction to play. That might be a sticky point
wink.gif
I'll nominate the Peacekeepers, because of their versatility.

One thing, Hippo. Can we do this with blind research turned OFF? I absolutely detest blind research! It jacked me up so bad in the SMAC GOTM, that I was utterly embarassed to send it in, (and didn't) because I preformed so poorly.

Also, what level will this game be played at. Right now, I only play at Librarian, or sometimes, Thinker. I sometimes play at Transcend, but I always get my butt kicked royally. I won't mind if you decide to play at Transcend, though.

As for factions, the Peacekeepers are fine with me, but may I suggest Morgan, the Gaians, or the University? I might even go along with the Hive, as I sometimes play them too.

Actually, for me, there are a number of factors that will determine what faction that I'll want to play as. If we're playing on a small or regular sized world, I'd suggest the Hive or the Spartans. If there will be plenty of mind worms, then I suggest the Gaians, or maybe the Spartans, as their high morale units might be some defense against the worms.

Anyway, I'm interested--count me in. I hope this adventure will fare better than the GOTM. I really would like to see more going on here in the SMAC section, so I'll do what I can to help out.

OK, Dreadhead is on board

I don't mind what level we play at, though I'd suggest Thinker as a good balance. And if anyone's worried about messing up the game because they aren't 'good' enough keep in mind that you only play 15 or so turns and the people beforehand will hopefully have set you up to succeed.

I think the Morgans are a bit too 'stuck' to play as a group. They're entrenched in the 'Build' aspect of the game, and I'm not sure so many of the warmongers among us like that
wink.gif
The Gaians could be all right, same with the Spartans. But the Hive HAS to go to all out war to win because of it's non-existant economy, so I'd reccomend against them.

How about the map of Planet?

Oh, and for this one at least, lets play the Original SMAC, not X (cause I don't have it

)

Ok, let's see:

Regular SMAC is fine with me, and I think it's only fair, as some of us don't have X.

The map of Planet is cool with me. I have never played on it, so it'll be a good challenge.

I get your concerns about Morgan and the Hive, so thats ok with me. It looks like it'll be a toss-up between the Peacekeepers, Spartans, and Gaians. Any of these are fine with me.

It's fine with me if we play on Thinker.

What about blind research and random events?

Pardon me if I sound like I'm taking over, or something. Obviously, I'm not, I'm just enthusiastic. It would be great if others gave input as well, so that the game parameters can be worked out. I hope that this generates lots of interest.

I thought I posted this yesterday, but...

Count me in. I will play with any faction and any set of rules. I would like to suggest that a not normal faction be used. This might add some spice to the game.

What do you mean by 'not normal'? Like a custom one or something? Works for me, if we see 'em first
smile.gif

Blind/regular research-either one is fine with me. Random events are a must! The only one that ever cripples me is a market crash that lowers my reserves from 20,000 to 1000.

We have 3 players so far. Just a couple more.....

Blind OFF, random ON. Is that cool? Sukenis, do you mean a custom faction, or a hated faction, like the Believers?

Yep, Spy, that's exactly what happened.

I e-mailed Thunderfall to ask if there were any problems, and to warn him about this. ARRRRGGGGHHHH! Oh, well, nobody's fault.

Be sure to enable "spoils of war" and to bar restarting eliminated players. I can win as "Transcend" sporadically (if I can build the Weather Paradigm and Virtual World as University, I'd have already won), but for a high chance of victory, Librarian level suits me. Otherwise, I'll glady play.

However, has it been started? Since you are a Mac user, will there be any compatability issues?

No, we haven't started yet--we need a few more players, I think.

5 or 6 players would be nice. We have 4
smile.gif

I don't think that there will be any compatibility issues. I'm not CERTAIN, but if Civ2 crosses over as easily as it does, then I'm sure AC will too
wink.gif

If there is a problem, I'll just join Spy in the bleachers and heckle the players

I was meaning more of a hated faction I guess. I was meaning one that is not as easy.

On a side note, why do so many people hate the believers. They are my favorite faction to play.

On another side note, I might be able to get a friend or two involved. It depends on there work load.

I've actually played the Believers a couple of times. I had to change my strategy somewhat, which is good. With the Believers, you have to use tons of probe teams to keep up in the tech race. Plus, I think that their production rate must be lower than average because it takes a long time to build units and improvements. At least, it did in my games.

I don't like the Believers because they're always starting wars with me, or demanding tribute. Plus, gosh, they expand so quickly! I don't like to be anywhere near them unless I'm pretty strong.

OK, decision time. As Spy said, lets do this NOW...

We'll play as the Paranoid Colonel Corazon Santiago of the Spartan Federation, Blind OFF, Random ON, Spoils ON, All victory routes available.

Thinker Level of difficulty.

The Map of Planet

We have four players (if anyone else shows up, we can add them to the end of the quene) So let's each play 15-20 turns at a time before moving it on.

I'll open a new thread tomorrow with the initial entry. You can post the epic adventures of your reign there. Try to keep a log of each turn as it helps for a more entertaining story.

I've just gotten really into SMAC so if you still need players I'll gladly join.
