I got a new amd 3800+, i played the game perfectly for 1 hour, then suddenly when the djingiss kahn try to talk with me.. My computer suddenly restarts :/ It worked so good for 1 hour, then boom, and now everytime when i try to load the game, after 1 minute the djingiss kahn vill talk with me, and then restart again. I got a nvidia 6600 gt ..

I would appreciate some answers to this problem.

Does it always happen at the same point - when Khan talks to you? Does it happen if you initiate contact? If it does, it would be great if you could post a save file here from immediately before the crash, , as well as your Directx diagnostic output (see this thread for an explanation if you're not sure how to do that).

Do you have the latest video card drivers?

Hello ainwood,

Yes i downloaded the newest drivers for my graphic card yesterday.

But this time when i played it didnt stop after a couple of minutes, i had time to play maybe 30 minutes , and suddenly, again!. Crash, i didnt even see who tryed to contact me for trade.
I can say like this all the auto reboots starts around that period that i had autosaved. All happens within time limit of 30 minutes gaming.
Only problemi have is for sure when somebody tryes to contact me. sometimes its ok, but maybe second, or third time it reboots :/

No my other games work without flicker or anything, i got f.e.a.r, quake 4, doom 3, far cry, etc

and the computer is not overclocked its newly bought from store. And all games have work perfectly except Civ 4 :/ its very strange.

I got frequent restarts when opening the advisor screens and during meetings with other civs. But also CTDs at seeming random times as well. I noticed explorer.exe shows a lot of activity when opening the advisor screens, maybe it was coincidence, I havent had the heart to go back into Civ4 tonight.

Im defragging and then reinstalling DirectX tomorrow and seeing if that helps. Its not a heat issue though, I can be sure of that. I monitored the temperature while playing Civ for an hour and having a reboot and the temp while playing WoW for 5 hours. The temperature is much hotter playing WoW

Plus I have 5 fans on my case, fans on my card, fans freaking everwhere. My computer stays relatively cool, but it heats up my damn room to 80 degrees. Good thing its winter, it cools down fast with a fan and open window :D

Guys my auto save saved exactly before the computer crashes, Try this file. The moment i load this the trade window pops up and then system reboot.

I don't get this error. Could I get you to test something for me?

Windows has a built in feature that prevents the "Blue screen of death". It is called "Automatic Restart". Disable it:

  • Log on to the host computer as either an administrator or the owner.
  • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  • Under Pick a category, click Performance and Maintenance.
  • Under the or pick a Control Panel icon section, click System.
  • Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
  • Uncheck the Automatically Restart checkbox under System Failure.
  • Click Apply or Ok.

Now when your computer would normally restart, it will instead show the BSOD. Not a fix for your problem, but maybe the BSOD will contain information as to why it is there... ?

Hello GiDustin, my Automatically Restart was already unchecked!. The game is rebooting my comp anyways. It reboots and starts like normal. Its quite an annoying problem i have :/

That is good news Cow-tippin. Well, not really, but at least we found that the problem is not because Windows is restarting your computer. Narrowing down the possible causes of a problem is the first step in fixing it.

Only problem is that I am out of ideas. :(

Thx GiDustin for taking your time, its highly appreciated.
Well i just sent an email to the support team, describing my problem.
And ill hope to get an answer about this matter. I will post when i get the answer.

All my problems are solved thx to the info about the beta driver 81.87 forceware.
