Hi guyz,
hello from the newest noob of the Civ world.
I have just completed the registration in the forum, and here I am, writing my first post.
My problem is the following:
I recently started playing Civilization V, and I have to say, little by little I am more and more enjoying it, it's a game I've heard about for ages but never played.
Now, since I like it more and more, I wish I could fix a few small details that, imho, have to be changed.
First of all, the technology research rate.
Going around for the web I found several Civ players share the same strange feeling when dealing with research rates in this game, especially 'cause the first eras (ancient and classical) basically are too short.
So, what I did after gathering some info is changing the parameter "research rate speed" in the GameSpeeds.xml file (btw, I am playing Gods and kings exp).
The trick was quite good, but not enough, since I want just to extend SOME research values (those for the techs in the first eras) so that Ancient and Classical time do not last only 60 turns (in epic or marathon speed mode).
So, I tried looking for a similar .xml file linked to technologies, and found one, in a folder called (guess what) assets/XML/....technologies.
There, I finally found the technologies.xml file.
Happy as a baby I started re-editing the file through Notepad (just like the Gamespeeds.xml file), and basically what I changed was the "cost" value under each tech section.
Results? Nothing, nada, absolutely 0.
I changed the values several times, I doubled them, tripled them.
Thinking it could be a bug, I changed these values in the technologies.xml file both in the original Civilization V folder AND the Gods and kings folder (yeas, each folder has its own .xml file).
Nothing, just like before.
I was wondering then, am I forced to use Civ V modbuddy to apply these changes? If so, where could I get it?
Or, if this is not the case, should I add some specific lines in the .xml files for the changes to be effective?
Or, more generally, am I doing anything wrong?
So, basically, any possible hints are really appreciated
Thx a lot for listening to my babbling, and sorry if this section of the forum is not the right one to edit this post.
REALLy looking forward to having a help from professional nerds/modders like u all
