The golden age increases both production and income so timing it to occur when both are most needed is ideal. In my experience, this is around half way through the Middle Ages to the start of Industrial Age.

In a typical game production needs compared to production capacity seem to be greatest from around the start of the middle ages to half way through the Industrial Age. Once in the Middle Ages, most core cities have been founded and many key city improvements can be built. There are also several key wonders at the end of the Middle Ages and start of the Industrial Age. Once all core cities have factories, production capacity is more in balance with production needs.

Cash requirements compared to income seem to peak around half way through the Middle Ages to about half way through the Industrial Age. Before this period cash requirements are low; technology can be bought cheaply and there are few units to upgrade. Once in this period you are either all out researching for the technology to build a key wonder or spending large amounts buying key technologies. Upgrade costs become more substantial with the discovery of gunpowder, military tradition, nationalism and replaceable parts. Around half way through the Industrial Age income is more in line with expenses. Most cities have banks and most key wonders are built allowing selling technology to supplement your income.

I'd say it's when you think you have a chance to destroy your neighboring civilization if you only had the numbers.

Churning out swordsmen every 1-3 turns in all my cities in the early game was especially fun.

I'd say around the year 2049 AD or so.

I like challenges.

early game immediately when u switch to monarchy. once u let the others develop an infrastructure and given all the AI bonuses, if u time ur GA later u are playing a game of catch-up. if u time it early u'll surpass them in production, military and tech.

Begening of industrial age , exactly where my german civilisation( as a democraty) will triger it with Newton College. It give such a boost, i receive nationalism free, steam power in 4 turn then industrialisation and so on. A golden age in republic or democraty give uge amoount of money, and in IMHO it is a waste to do it in monarchy or even worst in despotism.

Just depends on how you plan to win your game. Sometime i trigger it early so i can get a leap on all the AI's and possible win by dominiation/Conquest very early in the game.

Some people don't like to play to the modern age or just don't get there because they win before then. So triggering the GA is just about when it will give you the maxium effiency toward your end goal.

Whenever. It doesn't matter. You jst should know beforehand and make your empire ready for it so you can use the boost. maybe build a few more of these great Middle aAges wonders, maybe churn out the Immortals or Horsemen that little bit faster that gets you ahead - it all depends.

The one thing you should avoid: loosing it all to high corruption!
