I got curious how many of you out there are at the 'waiting for mapfinder' stage. I know I am! So I'm opening this thread to see :)

What I'm waiting on:

4300+ domination limit
Cattle on river
60% archipelago
Huge
etc.

Haven't got the right map yet in a few thousand rolls :(

I'm not waiting for it, but I expect some nice maps when I come home from work. Just need 1 more map for a histographic win in the HoF.

Ah, good luck with that :)

You might want to change the cow on river to cow with fresh water. You don't need fast research to get a good histo victory, though it does help.

Huh?

I don't get what you are saying.

If you are saying to consider lake, yes, I thought of that, but a river means that a much higher chance of there being multiple fresh water locations with food bonuses :)

I'll just admit that I never got the Mapfinder up and running. Sounds like a great utility, but I don't use it.

It is great! :)

Today, I got a new start evaluated every 7 seconds! It's hard to go that fast manually even!

11th ranked in the Quatermaster's and you never used Mapfinder???!!!:worship:

I will consider it then ;)

I'm running MapFinder intermittently for a Huge 60% Archipelago as the Dutch on Deity, with eight no-Alpha AI.

I take maps with:

Dom > 4500 or
Dom > 4400 + cow + river or
Dom > 4300 + 2cows + river

edit: I also have a ruleset for Ivory, but I forget what the Dom. limit for that one is.

Ah, that's a good strategy Bartleby... good luck with that too.

I sometimes run Mapfinder for 1 hour and no 4400+ river/cattle maps. Oh well, it takes patience I suppose.

Still looking though :)

I often leave mapfinder running over night, btw. It partly depends on what you are looking for - for instance, if you are looking for a coastal spot for a 20K city, you will need more iterations if you are Sumeria than you would if you were Scandinavia.

Just ran 1200 maps in mapfinder for a bit... I got about 30 that are 4300+, but of those, I'm only interested in about 10 of them.

It seems really hard to get relatively flatlands cattle start that is like one of Moonsinger's, or like my 8 cattle, 2 wheat, within 12 squares Monarch run :p

Then again, my 4k or 5k iterations I've run doesn't seem like a lot compared to what some people do.

edit: waste of time so far, 29 maps up, 29 maps down.. I figure I need a good 12 hour session for mapfinder to go through thousands of maps and get me 100 or so... the WORST part is getting a good game going and finding some AI is straight next to me, or they all go for Writing and I cannot trade it around to get through AA

Someone once claimed to have run 100,000 for a single game. I believe them, too.;)

;)

By the way, since I am getting annoyed with not enough good games where I can trade Writing around, I have switched my opponents to exclude Alphabet (added Ottomans and Mongols instead of Greece and Korea):

I had all scientific AIs but Ottomans like usual, but now:

Germany, Sumeria, Ottomans, Persia, Russia, Byzantine, Babylon, and last but not least... the....

Mongols

:stupid:

Just so I can beat them up for you!

Hahahaha!

Good thing too, those 1200 generations...

They were on raging barbarians!

Update:

After a 1600 generation run, I got 50 maps, and after a 3200 generation run, I got about 80 maps. After deleting the ones I didn't want, I was left with 88 maps exactly to play through. Of these, about 50 look good, and the other 30 or so I left in just in case, they tend to have swamp/jungle/plains near, but who knows, swamp/jungle/plains is not always a bad sign. Most milk runs tend to have some swamp/jungle fairly near to clear. And it does mean grassland for those. :) Plains, also, means good shield potential.

Going to play them in groups of eight at random until I find the one I'm looking for ;)

If I don't succeed, then it's back to the generation stage, but I'm confident in my opening play here if I do get something...

I'm the same. I couldn't get the thing to work right for me so I stopped trying. Usually if the start is green and on a river it is good enough for me. It doesn't need to have a cow near the capital, and I have never, ever checked domination limits..(I wouldn't know how anyway!)

I have still managed to get some good submissions without MapFinder.

Dom limits are really only important for 2 types of games:

Domination game, where you want really low limits and Histographic games, where you want high limits. Maybe 100K games, where you can put more cities in before the Domination limit.
