Hi! Welcome to my Civilization V designs! Please give input and ideas!
I you can't tell, I am very interested in Islamic and Chinese history.

Civs I would like to design:

Taiwan... Formosa... 台灣
Zeelandia
The Siraya

Taiwan

"Tungning Piracy"

Spoiler :

Leader: Koxinga
UA: Tungning Piracy
Gain naval units upon signing a declaration of friendship. May evacuate :c5citizen: citizens from newly-conquered cities to your cities if that city could have been liberated or at least 3 (standard speed) other major Civilizations are at war with the same leader.

UU: Fu-chuan Junk (frigate)
More expensive to produce (200 vs. 185), but has more combat strength (30 vs. 25) and 1 extra :c5moves: movement point. Starts with siege 1, and does not require iron if is gained through a declaration of friendship.

UB: Tuntian (barracks)
Plantations and fishing boat improvements worked by a city with a Tuntian gain +1 :c5food: food and +1 :c5production: production if a military unit is stationed on them. +15 exp for new units built in this city.

Islamic... Dar al-Islam
Rashidun Caliphate (Umar/Omar)
The Umma (Abu Bakr)
The Seljuk Turks
The Fatimid Caliphate

The Abbasid Caliphate
"Flower of the World"

Spoiler :
Leader: Harun al-Rashid
UA: Flower of the World
During golden ages, +3% :c5science: science, :c5culture: culture, :c5faith: faith and :c5production: production to wonders in the Capital per great person ever expended in the Capital. Gain golden age points from every technology discovered (doubled if first to research the technology).

UB: Bayt al-Hikmah (National Collage)
Unlocked later (theology), but provides +5% :c5science: for every religion in this city. After an University is built in this city, also gain +5% great person generation for each religion present in this city. Costs -3 :c5gold: per turn to maintain.

UU: Physician (Great scientist) (needs better name)
May build a unique improvement, the Bimaristan, which gives +6 :c5science:, +1 :c5food: food, +1 :c5goldenage: golden age point. Also gives +1 extra :c5food: food during golden ages. Can only be built next to cities. Gain a free Physician the first time one of your cities reaches 15 :c5citizen: population.

Colonization of the New World... Nouveau Monde... Pàshtone
New France
The Wampanoag
The Puritans

The Anishinaabe
"Council of Three Fires"

Spoiler :
Leader: Pontiac
UA: Council of Three Fires
All cities settled by you (exept for the capital) gain one of three unique specialists: Keeper of the Faith, Keeper of the Trade, or Keeper of the Fire*. Cities gain these specialist based upon order of founding. Yeilds of the specialists are doubled when the city working them adopts a religion. Gain 10 :c5faith: faith, 10 :c5gold: gold and 10 :c5culture: culture every 20 turns for every unique specialist being worked. These lumps sums are doubled upon reaching the Renaissance and Atomic eras.

*(+1 :c5food: food and +1 :c5production: production. +1 :c5faith: faith, :c5gold: gold or :c5culture: culture depending on city type.)

UB: Doodem (monument)
Gives one less point of culture, but provides +1 :c5food: food and +1 :c5production: production. If the city the Doodem is built in is connected to the capital, gives +1 one :c5faith: faith, :c5gold: gold or :c5culture: depending on the city type.

UU: Ogichidaa (swordsman)
Unique Anishinaabeg swordsman that is much weaker (:c5strength: 12 vs. :c5strength: 14), but it may build roads and is unlocked earlyer at the wheel. Roads build by an Ogichidaa on forest or jungle tiles only take one turn to be built. Starts with Drill 1.

China... 中国
The Qing Dynasty (Cixi)
Hong Kong and Macau

I don't agree with the UA. But I think its nice(and could use a little buff, say 3%).
Its very synergetic, as the UB allows you to gain more food in order to work more specialists, therefore increasing GP generation.
Though the part I don't like is the camel archer. While being decent, it has nothing to do with the rest of the design.

I'll be interested to see what you do with the Puritans given that I associate that movement most with Cromwell and The Protectorate - would be curious to see what their design would be in the very least.

In regards to your Caliphate design, I'm going to disagree with Natan and state that I find the UB to be too strong. Obviously I can see the synergy, but I feel that you are getting too much for one additional maintenance cost. It's intended to help spam GS but I can see it being too good in that regard given that it adds food, growth and a faster non-cultural great person generation.

That said, it's just my opinion, I'm sure others would give you a different view.

Listening to what y'all have said I'm going to change the Abbasids... but also expect a civ led by Metacom soon... :p

UA: Flower of the World
During golden ages, +3% :c5science: science, :c5culture: culture, :c5faith: faith and :c5production: production to wonders in the Capital per great person ever expended in the Capital. Gain golden age points from every technology dicovered (doubled if first to research the technology).

UB: Bayt al-Hikmah (National Collage)
Unlocked later (theology), but provides +5% :c5science: for every religion in this city. After an University is built in this city, also gain +5% great person generation for each religion present in this city. Costs -3 :c5gold: per turn to maintain.

No. No, no, no, no. National college that late is hugely penalizing, especially for me. Besides, national wonders other than guilds don't cost maintenance. And the Abassids only followed one religion! Specifically! Its horribly wrong, Niao...

(Nevertheless, I'll get like +300% yields in my capital with that UA)

I don't mind it, I usually get it later in the game anyway by going wide (And still usually am ahead of the AIs even without it.)

Yeah, getting a late National College is not that big a deal if you spend the early game expanding and setting up a stronk core.

I'm a bigger fan of the new design, but obviously it needs to be balanced. Golden age points from discovering techs is a great and simple idea though - I'm surprised it hasn't been used yet (at least I think it hasn't).

I'd state that balance is pretty important when discussing a civ with a science bonus - as otherwise they are laughably strong, I think the UGS could also do with a slight nerf - though I'm not too sure about that.

Its horribly wrong, Niao...

Natan pls

I am beginning to sound like scott... Oh dear.

It's only one tech later... or am I missing something?!?!?!

This design is more about The House of Wisdom and great scientific, cultural and social advances during the Abbasid Caliphate. Baghdad was actually a sort of Mecca for all of the "followers" of science, math, theology etc. regardless of religion. Many famous Abbasid scientists were actually not Islamic; thus many people gathered at The House of Wisdom- but people of other religions weren't necessarily all over Abbasid lands. The House of Wisdom is also one of the only places that all the "peoples of the book" (Islam, Christianity, Jewish) could gather and have theological debates funded by a non-secular government.

Also, how about this:

UU: Physician (Great scientist)
May build a unique improvement, the Bimaristan, which gives +6 :c5science:, +1 :c5food: food, +1 :c5goldenage: golden age point. Also gives +1 extra :c5food: food during :c5goldenage: golden ages. Can only be built next to cities. Gain a free Physician the first time one of your cities reaches 15 :c5citizen: population.

Yes. You're missing me ranting for using P&P with Babylon for no particular reason other then delaying my own progress...

Ponder this:

UA:
All non-capital cities settled by you gain one of three free specialist spots*. These are determined by the order of settlement**. Gain 10 :c5faith: faith, 10 :c5gold: gold and 10 :c5culture: culture every 20 turns for every unique specialist being worked***. Bonus doubled upon reaching the Renaissance and Atomic eras.

*(+1 :c5food: food and +1 :c5production: production. +1 :c5faith: faith, :c5gold: gold or :c5culture: culture depending on city type. All yields doubled if this city follows a religion.)

**(city one gets gets specialist 1, city two gets specialist 2... city four gets specialist 1)

***(match respectively to specialist 1, specialist 2, and specialist 3)

UB: (monument)
Gives one less point of culture, but provides +1 :c5food: food and +1 :c5production: production. If the city it is built in is connected to the capital, gives +1 one :c5faith: faith, :c5gold: gold or :c5culture: depending on the city type.

That UA is incredibly underpowered. Why would I want to waste a citizen gaining the equivalent or half a gold, faith, or culture every turn, when I could work a tile for Food and Production

Oh I forgot to mention the yeilds of the Specialist:

+1 :c5food: food and +1 :c5production: production. +1 :c5faith: faith, :c5gold: gold or :c5culture: culture depending on city type. All yields doubled if this city follows a religion.

You... Don't reveal the UU\UI?
Anyway, this reminds of Scott's design for Uzun Hassan(Sheep Turkmens), and I can't think of anything else really...

What?
That's a rather creative idea...

I must admit it's a rather nice idea. Doesn't the monument yield only 1 culture to begin with though?

Which is very penalizing.
But the capital also counts as a city connected to the capital IIRC)
