This has probably been covered in the last couple of months but I thought it was funny. I played as the Ottomans for the first time this morning and was pleased to discover that my 20th or so city was named "Not Constantinople"! An obvious reference to the song "Constantinople" on the They Might Be Giants album "Flood".
It's nice to know that Sid & company enjoy quality music. Again, sorry if this has been covered but I thought I'd bring this easter egg to your attention.

Wow, i was just listening to that song.
it is a good song.
I thought i was the only one who knew the reference from that song. Cool :goodjob:
I thought NOONE would mention this!
im excited

You areright, there was big talks about this. It might have been a SOTD or just a pic posted on the front page.

When the game first came out the forums were on an Easter egg craze finding out these kinds of things.

But hey, who cares if it's been covered or not. At least you aren't mentioning some unnamed bronze age phalanx defeating desiel powered armor with nukes flying both ways.

Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
by They Might Be Giants

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works
That's nobody's business but the Turks

Turns out it's actually a much older song than that. It was originally written by the Four Lads in 1953. The TMBG version is a remake.

This is a remake of a 1950s song, performed, but not written by They Might be Giants!

-Artists: The Four Lads

-peak Billboard position # 10 in 1953

-Words by Jimmy Kennedy and Music by Nat Simon

I was the Ottomans once and i thought it was some sort of mistake. Like a brother had renamed it.

Wow, I didn't realize it was a remake. Thanks for the enlightenment. It's a great song.

No doubt! :) I would have never guessed.

I was once playing as the Carthagians and I got a city called "lol". I thought that was a joke or something

Great song!
It was a "screenshot of the day" a while ago and the guy who sent it wrote about the song. That's when I discovered the band (except for the "Malcom in the Middle" song) and I have to say that I am really happy with them. Quite good!

You should check out their earlier albums like "Lincoln", "Flood" and "Apollo 18". Although I've yet to find an album of theirs that I don't like.

This ought to be moved to off topic

I think you'll need a crane to do it ;)
