After hearing all the horrible bugs, slowdowns, etc.. I decided to get the game from a friend of mine and play it. I installed this on my old machine. The Office Machine as I like to call it.

Specs are as follows:

P4 1.6ghz
384 MB SDRAM
80GB Maxtor HDD
Nvidia Ti 4200
No service pack 2

Now I keep my computers clean and healthy. Frequent spyware removals and cleaning along with a once a year Disk Fragment. I barely keep up with drivers. In fact, the drivers I am using are 55.xx. So..really old.

I fire up Civ 4, it installs fine, I get into the menu, crank it all on high, resolution 1280x1024 for my 19inch LCD. And play the game.

All graphics are fine, the game is running smooth, highest resolution and settings on this very old and outdated PC. 384mb of SDRAM for christ sake.
All the in game video's run brilliantly, no stuttering, no sound or graphic problems, no CTD's, no BSOD's.

That tells me something. A lot of you are computer illerate and most likely have viruses/spyware that are sucking up the games resources. Or you are still running 286's. Before you flame me, consider this, my friend, dad, uncle, cousin all play the game fine. And they do not have uber systems. One thing we all have in common: we keep the PC clean. Here is a fix for all of you with problems. REFORMAT YOUR HARDDRIVE and clean up your pr0n!:goodjob:

I doubt it is people having issues with "porn" or spyware on their systems. Although that is something to consider...

You having an older machine is probably what actually helps you. I've ran Civ IV on multiple machines and it always seems to run better on the older ones. Which is kind of funny as it is usually the other way around.

But your advice to remove spyware/adware is good and should be recommended to those experiencing bad performance.

I also run it on a Amd Athlon XP 3200, 1gb Corsair XMS ram, Nvidia 6800, 74GB Raptor drive, and it completely slaughters Civ 4. Come on people, CIV 4 is not taxing for any computer. Comparing it to FEAR and Doom 3 is laughable. The only thing I can think of is spyware or you guys have way to many processes running. Do this: REFORMAT YOUR HDD. Just completely wipe your HDD and reinstall windows. The Game will work fine.

Ok, you're a genius of computer science...

I've my computer clean, no spyware or other things. I know exactly how many processes are running on pc and Civ 4 is the only game which gives me problems.
If you're so intelligent, explain me why i can't play it because the game protection.
All the solutions i tryed were inefficient, and (i repeat) this is the only game which gives me problems.

Bye bye...

P.S.

I've heard that Civ 4 doesn't run on about 30% of computers...
It's an example of perfect software

great, that just what i needed: some krud-for-brains telling me that I dont know how to use computers.

I'm an IT professional, have been in the business for years, and run EXTREMELY clean, defragged, whatever else you want computers. I have firewalls, a softwall, spyware cleaners, virus cleaners, the works. I also have a BRAND NEW system. Think its crap? x2 4400, 2gb RAM, X-Fi elite pro, SATA II HDDs, etc etc.

So dont wind me up, go troll somewhere else.

Don't flame them, either.

Ok, there is a game protection problem. Mainly because my game is not store bought, so I had to mount an image fix. Now it works fine. Desmondch, you think I know nothing about computers....I bet I know way more than you can even hope to. Ohhhh...you were an IT professional?? Wow, gj, 2 years of computer study and anyone can be an IT professional. So tell me, how is it that you have such a great computer and can't make a simple piece of software run?

Once again people, stop *****in and reformat your HDD. The massive amounts of pr0n you have can be saved onto a CD. Everyone I know runs the game fine, the worst we've had is the whole DVD not recognized.

Or you can always dl the game and see if that works. Maybe the CD's are fuxored.

You're a tard. I'm using an A64 running 2.6 GHz with 1 gig Mushkin redline, a raptor 74 gb, dfi lanparty, and a 6600gt. The game works fine on smaller maps, but crashes on larger ones. This is after I bought a sound card because the stupid game couldnt recognize USB speakers and wouldnt load past the XML.

And no... its not that its overclocked, its 100% stable at that speed. The game has memory leaks which cause it to crash in AD. The fact that you, your brother, mother, sister, aunt, and cousin can all run the game is wonderful. But, besides you, they probably all have older machines which seem to run the game better than newer ones.

To come in here and think you are somehow more computer literate than the entire internet is extremely egotistical -- but pretty amusing.

Oh btw, my computer is overclocked, and actually not 100% stable, but I'll be damned if Civilization ever crashes. That make you feel better?

I really get a kick out of people who think they know more than everyone else. LOL.

Since you know me so well and know my knowledge level so well, why don't you tell me all about me and my system?

In the event you hadn't read this, the game developers have stated that the game was not 100% compatible with every graphic card.

Have you ever heard the saying...

"Better to keep one's mouth shut and be considered a fool than to open it and prove you're a fool."

Think about it.

;)

Well, you can dwell on that......I'm going to play some Civilization 4 on a big map. Enjoy your CTD's and BSODs.

noob.

Very wise man you are. So you are saying if I have porn movie on my hard drive, I should format it? What if I have James Bond film? Do I have to format my hard then also?? Oh Iam bowing to you mighty computer wizard!!!
And yes, ancient machines seems to handle better civ4, so if you wanna play it, buy old 386 or 486 if you can find one, i dont only poor people have ones, and now they can get rich when selling them to Civ fans.
