I need some light hearted history for awhile.
All this WWII and A-Bomb talk is making me crazy. :crazyeye:

IMHO, the greatest invention of all time:

The Refridgerator!

Think about it. How did we ever live without it?

Leftover pizza and ice cold ale on a summer day.
Priceless.

The computer and the internet is obviously up there as well, but I'll take the "flushing indoor water-closet throne" as my second choice. :D

What are yours? :groucho:

Behold!

I think the greatest invention of all shld be the PC. That's how we can end up playing Civ and posting at CFC here, along with a host of other 'leisurely' activities. :)

Toilet and eating/drinking activities can still be done the old way, but there's no previous way to replicate what the PC's doing for us.

Well, I still say the wheel, but actually, it's radio/music players, I find I can't get through the day without music.

Music does not require electronics! Sticks and rocks are sufficient to get some really good music going (or pencils and notepads, should you be office-bound). Most of us have voices, too, song takes no invention.

This type of thread was one of the first in this forum. Even after reading all the other opinions, I still vote for the flush toilet. Saying goodbye to bedpans and outhouses and oderous heaps at the end of the road has done wonders for humanity. Not only for comfort, but for health. Knight-Dragon, answering nature's call can be done without technology, no doubt - but moving the "product" far away from you cannot. ;)

Underarm deodorant
Impact-proof plastic coke bottles
And the number one all time triumph of the patent system:

The Birth Control Pill!

The SOLAR POWERED FLASHLIGHT:

Butt Paste:

other than that, probably Billy the big-mouthed Bass, singing fish.

That's right, and the drums from "Keep Yourself Alive" sound very good on my desk at school, but I wouldn't be as happy as I am now if there wasn't "Since I've Been Loving You" (Led Zeppelin).

AoA has a good one, the wheel.

In fact my next post was going to be The Automobile.
Like most Americans, I love those damn things. Especially big, fat obnoxious ones like Lincoln Town Cars! Vroom!

OK, I know its bad and all for fuel and the enviorment, but dammit those old cadillacs are sweet.

I like muscle cars too. Anything late 60s or early 70s.

My #3 favorite invention: Automobiles.

Funny how these things go. 10,000 years ago we didn't have the wheel.

However we did have double-header dildos. Did our ancestors get their priorities right?

Of course.

They made sure to keep in touch with the important things.

As for my answer, I'd say writing may be it. Becoming able to record events, and, more important, recording what we knew, was a key step in our development IMHO.

That would be sewage technology. :) Flushing will do no good, if the 'product' doesn't go somewhere anyway.

Inspired by the hot weather thread in OT, I'd think that the air-conditioner is mankind's greatest invention (in the tropics anyway). :D
