i like this idea, however, if Civ specific wonders are ever implemented, i can see some civs having something similar to this. (ljoslafar with a wall of trees, dwarves with cliff sourrounding thier borders, etc...)

Elves would never want a wall of trees around their borders. Typically elves use forests as defenses because they hide inside them. Such a perimeter would just be pointing at their kingdom. I would just make an elven city invisible on the map if surrounded (in the 8 squares around the center) by only forests and mountains.
And how would the dwarves build wall of cliffs ?

Obviously they wouldn't build it, they would pray to their creator Kilmorph, Goddess of the earth, to raise up the land around them to guard her children.

I'm not really a fan of the idea though.

Speaking of walls made of cliffs made me think of the Wall of Stone spell. I think it would be better if it created a temporary fort-like improvement instead of a temporary wall, so it could be used abroad instead of just in cities. (or maybe it could do both, depending on whether in a city or in the field) Obviously, it would be overpowered if it acted like a fort in all ways (it shouldn't give you the resources on the tile or let ships pass, for example), but the defensive bonus would be nice. The current spell is usually useless, since most cities would have enough culture that one extra defensive building doesn't have any real effect.

2 - archers getting the barrage ability from Age of Ice

Oh God I hope not. Archers were broken as hell in Age of Ice. I literally had no difficulty attacking any city ever in that game; just bring a bunch of archers and everything is super easy! Seriously, why waste your time with fireballs and mages?

I was very hopeful of the archers having the barrage ability as well, and am very disappointed that they may not. I could always mod it in myself though.
