Trade hit on reputation?

Not sure, but I was trading resources with america, they offered gold per turn in return. I had a surplus, but as u all know strategic resources do a dissappearing act once in a while. It happened to me (saltpeter I think) and all the nations I dealt saltpeter with refuse to have a gold per turn treaty with me.

Question: If saltpeter dissappeared and u no longer have a surplus do those u trade with still get saltpeter? (the contract didnt expire just continued)

I managed to get them back into the gold per turn thingy by offering them gold per turn. I never broken a treaty to my knowledge and only had a war once with babylon. Btw nearly all call me a tough negotiator.

Maybe they think you are too powerful, they don't have enough gold or they simply do not want the resource that you are offering?

IIRC if you have two resources and are trading for one and using the other then the trade continues and it's as if you have no resource!

I've seen a Civ get more angry with me after a trade, they gave me a lot of stuff for a trade and went from "Annoyed" to "Furious".

Yeah, this happened to me. Went from Polite to Annoyed in one turn. Perhaps they just think I'm too powerful.

I never trade strategic resources. I try to get a monopoly on as many as possible. If I do trade them, I do so at great expense to the buyer. Enough to keep their treasury shrinking.

Had a war with the Persians, took their iron, saltpeter, and gem supply. They sued for peace. I took it then sold the gems back to them. Forced them to buy iron from the Chinese, who then became polite. Funny, there was no resistance in the conquered cities. All went to happy faces. Eventually the Persians attacked again and fell like a house of cards. Now the Chinese are PO'd at me.

Ah cool thanks dear civmongers that cleared up a few things. Yeah Dell19 I think you're right those conditions existed also, so it basically means these civs dont value loyalty or generousity very well. Right b4 Im finished Ill nuke them all. They might end up thanking me.
