I've only been playing Civ3 for a few weeks, and normally play at regent level (I have the Gold Edition, I picked it up for $5 in used games section)

I have yet to ever have the AI even consider accepting a gpt trade, regardless of how much I stack the deal (like trying to trade 4 of my techs for his/her 1 gpt). What is the criteria for getting gpt deals??

TIA

Welcome to the forum :wavey:

$5 - Wow - a great deal. I think that's equivalent to PTW. Be sure to patch it.

A civ must have the cash flow to accept the deal. Sometimes they're just broke. Try a lump sum.

If you have broken a gpt deal before then any civ will be wary (unless you finish them off before first contact).

You should look at the F4 screen/trades tab. If you have an active trade with someone and you attack them then you get a reputation hit for breaking the deal. To cancel a deal after 20 turns go into the negotiation screen, click on the 'Active' button and click on the deal to remove it.

BTW, how did you jump to Reagent so fast?!

A good way to gauge what's happening is to pay attention to what the advisor says.

If he says: "They would never accept such a deal" then the civ in question isn't running a profit economy.

If he says: "They would probably be insulted" the you wrecked your rep.

At least, that's how I think it goes....

Minor correction:

If he says: "they would never............" they either have not gpt to spare or you've ruined your red.

If he says: "They would be insulted...." They have the cash to spare, but your end is light.

[edit- If the advisor is saying "they would never......" you can offer it to them anyways, if they come back with "Blah can't entertain such a trade right now" or something like that, don't have the gpt. If they come back with "after what you did to the Mongols?" you've broken your rep.]

Firstly, (And onlyly) the AI will still pay you gpt if you have a bad rep. The AI just won't accept it.

And Sesn, that GOT AVATAR? thing appeared in your sig a few hours before your flag was added?

Another question : at the beginning of a game u never ever can make a gpt deal (even if u give a civ 10gpt for nothing  ). Assuming ur rep is fine, let's say good, I've always wondered what conditions u have to meet for other civs to accept gpt deal

The AI won't accept gpt deals that you can't cover, ie you must have at least that much of an income every turn.

Another thing. When you start playing on some harder levels, AI will play better and will have/make more money. Then they will be ably to give you 100+$ for your techs or resources, expetially the later ones like uranium or aluminium.

And iron. (Too short to post, so I'll add that anything that allows anything good is valuable)
