Hi all,

I am an old civver who went cold turkey for a few years (my last login to civfanatcis forums - December 23 2001!) but has recently purchased a copy of Civ4 and am going to get stuck into it tonight.

My question, is it better to play the tutorial or jump straight into a game? Will i be able to figure out the changes from previous civ versions or will i need my hand held for the first little while?

Thanks in advance. :)

there is a bit of harm in the tutorial actually. it's a bit buggy and it's really not as clear about how you need to do things as it should be, given that it's aimed at truly basic beginners.

so my advice is, if you want to try the tutorial, go for it. but it may frustrate you because it tells you to do stuff that can be hard figure out ... like "move your scout X direction" without telling you that the only way the tutorial will go forward is if you use one specific method of moving your unit, out of the 3 or so ways they already tell you that you can move units :crazyeye:.

but even if it frustrates the snot out of you, that doesn't mean you won't like civ4. the game is a lot more flexible than the bossy tutorial is.

and welcome back to CFC :)

Jump right in but at an easy level.
I played my 1st game at settler, made a few mistakes, but generally found it easy enough. Every game went up a difficulty level until I found that somewhere between warlord and noble is where I start having problems.
The toughest things to learn in Civ IV (like how best to get the Great People you want) the tutorial doesn't cover.
