I think it shows how the "old guard" underperformed... No players from Spain, one from Italy, one from Germany, one from Holland...

By the way, how did Figo make that list? He put in one good performance... :hmm:

I slightly disagree with this. It seems to me that to get on the list you need to be either from a country that did well, or from an old guard country. There are players from Germany and Italy who went out in the 1st round and 4  from england, but none from the likes of Russia (who even beat Greece!), Latvia, Bulgaria etc, where the players weren't as well known before the tournament.

Also, Pavel Nedved. Played rubbish against Latvia, didn't play against Germany, and went off injured early on against Greece.

My ideal team of the tournament is:

Buffon

Seitaridis
Dellas
Ricardo Carvalho
Zambrotta

Poborsky
Zagorakis
Maniche
Nedved

Rooney
Baros

Nikopolidis is an ok goalie but not that great. He's very fragile at crosses. Greece conceded 4 goals in the tournament and two were from crosses where he should have done better, not to mention the several errors he made in those situatuions but that weren't capitalised by czechs and spaniards to mention the most notorious ones. Buffon is a much more complete keeper, and saved everything that was possible to save. It was not because of him that Italy went home.

I think the goalkeeper of Latvia did a pretty good job, as well as their central forward player did. Robben played good, so did Zlatan, Deco, Poborsky, Lahm, Valeron and some I forget in this moment.

That UEFA list is only a poor compromise between naming some of the usual superstars and five greek players.
