I am playing the Napoleonic thing and have a gut feeling that some if not all civs have more than one unit that is different and special to them. However for triggering a GA only one is truly their UU. am I right? if so what are the real UU's for the civs?

I am sitting here at work thinking about civing, a nasty habit of mine, and realize that maybe this is info that is in the civiliapedia and that this question is a waste of your time. if so I apologize, you can bloat your post count by welcoming this long time reader first time poster. On the other hand I don't like bloated post counts and neither should you.

Only one unit for a civ can trigger a GA.

(triggers GA)
Britan: Man-O-War
France: Voltigeur
Russia: Cossack
Austria: Hussar
Ottoman: Sipahi
Netherlands: Swiss Mercenary
Portugal: Carrack

What about Prussia, Spain and the minor nations?

Based on the editor Prussia and Spain don't have a unit that can trigger a GA.

thanks a bunch for the help. Is it like this with UU's not givng GA's in other Conquest Scenarios as well?

In the WWII conquest no UUs trigger a GA.

WW2 and Sengoku don't have UUs. Aside from that, only Prussia and Spain in NapoE cannot get a GA with an UU, and since there are no buildable Wonders - of course, my 1st SGL ever was here  - those 2 Civs are also the only 2 playable Civs with zero chance for a Golden Age outside WW2.

I think in the Napoleonic Conquest Prussia has a UU, namely the Curassier. I succeeded to trigger a GA thru a victory of this unit type as far as I can remember.

They have an UU (at least somewhat useful compared to Soldados), but this one is not flagged to trigger a GA (but as usual, don't assume it couldn't be different in some localizations  )
Considering the Swiss Merc still triggers a GA this looks a bit odd, I agree. But then, the Napoleonic Era wasn't exactly the greatest time for Prussia (despite Blücher, but that was when the Emperor returned from Elba) or Spain...so the buggy part seems more that the Carrack and Swissie still have the flag.

Definitely an injustice. The point of the game is to rewrite history, and if the Moldovan-Romanian wars of the 15th century has taught us anything, brilliant leadership can easily reign in a golden age under the worst conditions. Robbing a nation of it's oppurtunity for a near-miracle recovery from obscurityis not fair at all.

What does UU stand for? I'm kind of a newb to the complicated Turn Based Strategy genre and I'm not entirely sure what everything does. I started playing Alpha Centauri again so I think I comprehend at least a good portion of it. Anyways, UU?

UU - Unique Units. It is a unit that only one civ can build. It replaces one of the regular units.

Ah thanks. Also, thanks for the speedy reply Gumby. Hey, where's Pokey? :p

Also, what is Vanilla? I hear people referring to it a lot.

Each playable civilization has it's own Unique Unit (UU) which, when winning a victory against another unit, can trigger a Golden Age (20 turns of increased production, income, and other benefits) for it's people.
