How exactly does these work? What governs who controls a given title? After someone becomes a vassal to someone else do they have to get a border pop in a nearby city to get control over a title that they should have had? Are these rules different for warlords and bts? Voluntarily vassals, how can these be broken? By who? What about unvoluntarily vassals? Can these be broken? If so how? How does vassals in mp work? It doesn't seem like the normal pop and territory rules applies..

So noone knows?

My experience only comes from forced vassals - no one ever became my vassal without war.

On a Master/Vassal boarder, the master has all the tiles he has superior culture on (as ususall) and all tiles in the BFC of his cities, even if those tiles should belong to the vassal by culture.

If the Masters Culture swarms a Vassals City, the City will revolt at times, but never flip.

A Vassal can break free:
- if the 50% Land loose etc. criteria are met.
- if the master demands the vassals only instance of a ressource (refusal means war). Does not happen a lot, as they usually scared :D

I think a voluntary vassal can just break free any time. Not sure here.

The master can never 'fire' a vassal.

I thought a vassal got control of its titles when they were closer to his city than to masters city? Also does the 50% rule not apply to mp and is just a check for when an AI would want to vassalize?

If those are not in tha Masters BFC and the Vassal has more culture on those tiles, he will get them :D Here i am sure, as i just recently seen this in game - while going for a culture win i kind of accidentally starved my vassal...

I can only speak for single player and only for forced vassals.

So vassals will not get control of the titles if they have less culture? Even after a border pop or whatever?

They dont.
