Hello,

Can anyone help me with my problem?

I have just played the game a couple of times. The first time everything went fine. Now, if I conquer a city that entire civilzation is destroyed. Also, once all civilzations are gone in this matter, the game does not end.

I think I might have accidently changed some setting, but cannot figure out wich one that would cause this. Or is this a bug? I'm using Windows 7, 64bit.

I think it is the option for victory called Regicide. If you take down any of a nations towns, it is eliminated. Not sure about the game not ending, unless you seleced "gimme one more turn".

Welcome to CFC Angantyr999!

The reason for your problem is that you most likely have checked the "Elimination" flag at the start of the game. Checking the regicide (mass regicide) flag gives you king unit(s) and if a civ loses all your king units the game is over for them, but individual cities do not matter. They matter in Elimination game type though, which causes exactly the behaviour you have described: Once a civ loses even one city, that civ is eliminated from the game.

About the victory option: you may have unchecked conquest victory or already won the game (but i guess this is not the case) somehow. You can figure out what are your game parameters if you load your save game, then exit to the main menu and start a new one. The game parameters are saved from the last game and will be pre-checked in the game options screen.

Thanks Diviner, your reply was very helpful.
The Elimination options seems incredible stupid to me. Who wants that?

Got the term wrong, but for sure it is an option you select at start of game. Never used any of the Elimination, Regicide or Mass Regicide.

Is the game over or did you find there is another nation someplace?

I have figured out what happened.

I wanted to change the victory conditions and mistook "elimination" for what should have been "allow conquest victory" during the setup. I still had some other victory condions selected, but there is no point in playing if there is no competition. Funny, how the game still is going on without any notice if that happens.

Then I played the game again with different victory conditions selected, but still had "elimination" selected.

It was all a dumb mistake on my side, but I must say that I find the Elimination option completely incomprehensible. Who wants that?

Civ3 is a good but very time consuming game. The last time I played the game I hade a very interesting scenario going on after several days of playing. Now I find that I will never have a proper conclusion of the that game and that all the hours I spent was completely wasted.

This have put me off to a point where I don't want to play the game any more.

I may be mistaken but I think theres an editor that you can download that would allow you to open up your saved game and edit the vicotry conditions (along with anything else).

No doubt someone can provide a link to it?

I have looked around for a savegame editor but I have not found anyone that would work on a standard game. While doing so I found that I'm not the only one that made the mistake with the stupid Elimination option...

Any help to find a suitable editor would be appriciated.

Elimination can be tweaked to allow multiple city losses up to a certain number. See here:

In my opinion the option is viable only in single player with a pre-set scenario or multi player.
