I have found many free audio file converters between wma, mp3, and lots more, but every time I look for a free video file converter it's shareware or you have to pay.

Anyone know where I can find a free converter for video files that's freeware and doesn't have a limit (isn't a trial)?

Virtual Dub.

That looks like a free video-capturing program, but it doesn't look like it converts from one video file type to another. see features list

Edit: It seems as if it has very limited conversion features.

Any free programs that have a wide variety of conversion features?

Technical reason why they cost money - MPEG encoders/decoders are licensed from the MPEG group.

If you find a better one, please post back. VD's main usage is getting AVI's into a standard format.

Actually, I googled it with a certain term in quotes (I forgot what I searched for) and pulled up this: SC Video Converter.
It says
"Features

Friendly interface allows performing the following operations:

* Conversion of different video formats
* Video Conversion (Supported formats AVI, MPEG1, MPEG2, WMV, ASF)
* Easy to use (just one click of a mouse)
* Convert multiple video files at once (Batch Conversion).
* Registered users get free upgrades for one year."

And it's at http://www.softwareclub.ws/index.html, which says all its products are completely free and it has many tools for audio and video. It's real cool I think, so check it out.

visit www.afterdawn.com for all video related needs.

divxtodvd is a super utility to convert mostly anything to DVD format in literally 1 click of a mouse button.

there are many other video conversion programs, but they do differ here and there, Nero Vision Express works well too.

Okay I got a video online for my friend of dragonball z and he doesn't have a computer only a DVD player at his house. How do I convert the file (I think it's avi but it's gay and only says "video file" so that he can watch it on his dvd player? Do I have to burn it to a DVD and not a cd and what file type must it be?

Thanks.

I've been told that Nero Express (bundled with Nero) will do it pretty much "Load file" Save DVD. Very simple if you have a recent copy of Nero.

If not... I tried a Google for AVI2DVD and got here;-

Not sure if it's what you're looking for though.

EDIT: There's a useful guide on the right of that splash page - it's a bit cluttered, here is a direct link;-

Videohelp sounds like the site you've been looking for. Me too!

Okay. Thanks. It's real hard for me to find 100% freeware of a video converter that isn't a trial and doesn't include a watermark. Thanks for the find.:goodjob:

VirtualDub does everything I need for video. Bit of a learning curve, but quite useful once you know what you're doing.
