Vikings and Portugal UHV problems

My latest UHV try was with the Vikings. I reached the gold and American colony goals, so I was left with the "Sink 25 ships" one.

I sank a few ships, then I checked the statistics screen and I was up to 25 kills combining galleys, triremes, caravels, galleons and a few east indiamans.
But the victory screen still said the goal wasn't accomplished yet.

I sank some more, up to 30 but still not met the condition.
I've been using mainly privateers to avoid going to war, could it be the reason those ships don't count for the UHV? If so, how can I track the number of ships I've really sunk?

About the Portugal UHV and the Open borders agreement with 7 civs in 1650. I had opens borders in 1650 with more than 10 civs although I had lost contact with some of them.
I failed the goal. Is this intended? Do I need both open borders and contact with those 7 civs in 1650?

I had the same problem when doing the viking uhv. My guess is ships destroyed by privateers don't count towards uhv.
In a second game i did it with 'normal' ships and going to war. I hit the goal excactly at 25 ships (including work boats). If you beeline for fregattes you have them when all others still use galeons, declare on spain and portugal, they have a lot of ships and are to far away to effectively invade your homeland.

Here's the vikings savegame.

In the statistics screen it shows under kills:
9 caravel, 7 galleon, 6 trireme, 5 east indiaman, 2 galley=29

I'll try to sink ships without privateers then, thank you.

I don't have the Portugal save any more, since I restarted and saved over the old one. It could be that I didn't have 10 open borders, I don't remember the exact number. I'm trying again anyway and will have 10 by 1650 this time.

Grazie :D

I've just realized that I am not up to date with the latest versions, so everything I said so far is probably void.

I'll update asap.

Sorry and thanks again for the quick answers.

Privateers certainly worked for me in the previous patch. I put one of my great "generals" aboard one (appropriately enough, Horatio Nelson) who led a fleet of 6 or 7 of them causing all sorts of mayhem in the mid Atlantic.

Cheers, Luke
