I want to be able to travel with my laptop without bringing the play disk, and can easily do that with earlier versions of Civ II & Civ III and the virtual CD software I've got: http://www.virtualcd-online.com/vcd/apps/overview/original.cfm?lg=0. (Saves battery life not running the CD-ROM & don't have to keep track of the CD.)
I can make the VCDs for both Disk 1 & 2 of Civ IV and install the program fine from the virtual CD "drive", but Civ IV doesn't recognize the Disk 1 as the play disk. (I can stick in the real CD and it works, so it's something about the VCD copy.)
Does anyone know what settings I should use on Virtual CD to try to make a running copy? Or is there a patch to knock out that irritating checking of the physical CD? Suggestions?
(I, once again, own both the game and the VCD software. So, I can legitimately do this.)
