Hi every one,

Every single time I start the game I get this error about some DLL that could not be loaded correctly (the title of the window is Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library).

It will pop up again a second time and then the game will start and function correctly. Any hint about how to correct this?

I have Civ IV plus BTS and visual basic express installed in case it has something to do with it.

Thanks in advance.

You're not alone, I have the same problem with Col, but never had it with CivIV+BtS

Go to the ini file - I have no copy yet so I cannot tell you the exact name - and try to disable the intro video. You may want to check all ini files you can find. Once they are opened, press crtl+f, and type intro. Then look up that word. Somewhere I'd look for a line like 'Intro_video enabled = true' or 'show_intro_video = 1' or something like that. Change true in false or the 1 into 0.

Does that solve your problem?

@Shurdus, Thanks for the reply, but I am afraid it has nothing to do with it (tried it already as I have always disabled intro movies for Civ IV and BTS after watching them once).

The bug appears before the application does anything, even before initializing the video system. It appears right after double clicking to start the game, before than the Initializing everything splash screen.

All the game appears to work perfectly fine except for that initial warning. Actually is more a 'bugging' think than a 'bug' from a 'does the game work' perspective...

I'm sorry I'm not alone tour86rocker ;).

Ok, it was just a hunch. :)

My next hunch would be to reinstall your video driver and directx. I think that may fix your problem.

Other than that I'd try to look up the path and manually download the file somewhere online. Put it in the correct folder, reboot and see if that fixes it.

The weird thing is that I never got that error message until after a few plays, after I had changed some settings in options.

Can you remember what you changed, from what to what? Also, can you provide the exact error message (or just the code, I suspect it is an 0x800ccc?)

I'm not sure exactly what I changed other than resolution and windowed mode.

My error message says:

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\2K Games\Firaxis Game...

R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I click OK and the same exact message replaces it once more.

In fact, I just restored the defaults and retried. The same message pops up. Direct2Drive is where I got the game. Like I said, I didn't get messages at first after I installed. I haven't DL'ed any mods or anything, either.

Sorry for the late reply, but work and everything claim time too. ;)

If I am not mistaken, the code you see belongs to errors related to designing software. I don't think you are supposed to get one of these when starting a game, ever. there are workarounds for this, but they are highly specialistic and a bit over my head so I am afraid I cannot help you with this one. :(

np, the game works fine otherwise, it's not bothering me. Thanks for your interest in my error.

My apologies to the original poster; our probs are not identical and I hope Aratirn's game works

Thanks, it does work. As you said, it just bugs me a little , but I just click twice on accept and there we go.

You're not alone.
Just to let you know I have the same "problem".
I bought an official copy in a box (as ever), so the bug is real.
Clicking it away twice works ok.
It is a bit silly problem (until now) but we would do better without it.
Can we expect something from EA or don't they read Civfanatics?

Don't be expecting anything from EA. Firaxis or 2K maybe, but not EA. :p

I'd make sure that all crashes are reported here, as I'm pretty certain Firaxis would be watching these forums to get a list for a patch. :)

As I said "It is a bit silly problem (until now) ..."
Halfway the game there was a blackout and the game was gone...
Not silly anymore but quite annoying.

Noteworthy may be that the same blackout-thing also occurs sometimes with SimCity4 that I recently bought for old time sake. So maybe all this fun is caused by Vista or the videocard or ... but not by Civ or Sim?

I play under Vista Ultimate (32bit) on Dual Core E6600, 4Gb SDRAM (c6400), XFX-Geforce8800GTS. State of the art one year ago...

Good news !
Driver-update: Nvidia Geforce 178.24 whql was announced today
and after the update my Colonization starts up fine.
Hope it works for you as well !
