Is there one?

I really doubt it needs to be said that Vox changes pretty much aspect of civilization 5. The only things untouched is the hex-mechanics of the cities, and the fact that the city are all one tiles. Which is to be expected as its Civ 6 being the first to unpack and open up the city into multipule districts.

The only problem, is that these changes are so singificant, that it takes a lot of getting used to. I used to be able to play against the second top-tier of AI without too much difficulty and win most of the time. Now through, I tend to go against Prince level AI's, and I often struggle to do well against them.

Is there a guide out-there, than can help me understand the ins and outs of Vox Populi? Ranging from a big discussion, talking about the tier list of religion and civilizations. How to play particular civilziations to get the best out of them, and abusing the AI rules to the best of your ability. Or simply just a short list of criticals tips and hints to help someone adjust to a vastly different game?

Because I would very much appreciate it if there is one.

First, the Vox Patch started as a small AI improvement mod, to reduce the mistakes the AI do and improve their general play. So, of course its now harder to win vs a much better AI then in the vanilla game.

Second, the Difficulties in Vanilla and Vox are not the same. If you pick a difficulty, you will see the "normal" game (AI without any advancements) is now much lower then before. I think in Vox you have to pick 3 levels lower then in vanilla for the same AI advancements. (Additionally more difficult due to better play)

... Thank you every so much for your... ah.... insightful commentary! I would have never guessed that patch with strong AI fixes would of made the AI much harder to play against. And that the difficulties between Vanilla and Vox would not be the same!

I mean. Its not like I'm asking for a guide to help me understand that vast amount of differences between the Vainilla game and Vox. Its not like I have a competitive nature, and wish to be able to get an edge over my friends with hints and tips to use in my current game or the next.

No, no of course not! You sirr have solved everything in a single post. Thank you oh so much!

Why the sass? He was trying to help you out.

There's both a strategy subforum and Unified Changelog outlining all the differences from the mod and vanilla. They're both sticked at the top of the main CPP forum.

That's a lot of bitterness towards someone who genuinely tried to help you...

The United Changelog is good, yes, and I've gone over it myself. But with the amount of changes, it's hard for someone to realise the significance of some of the changes. Just knowing what the changes are, doesn't mean I understand their full impact.

And yes, there is a Strategy Section, which is useful. But there doesn't seem to be any tips and tricks. There's a few Guides, but none at that useful. The Religion one os just a basic summary and Settling Cities is debated about more than solid advice and not even complete... not to mention there's no guide looking over every faction in the game. There's no guide about if and when you should focus on religion, science and culture, and how...

There's stuff out-there, I'm not denying it. But there could be something much more.

Also, I wasn't being bitter, just sassy.

I think you should just play. I think that is the best way to get familiar with the changes. I didn't look up much about VP before I started and now I am very familiar with all aspects of the game. Most answers you get in the game tooltips and civilopedia.

Given the degree of this mod still being 'under construction', I doubt it's worth anyone's time to attempt to write a 'complete' guide as of yet. True, no major changes are probably going to be happening, but it'd still be kinda iffy for a guide-writer to reference something(unique ability/unit/improvement, building/tech/policy etc.) as an example only to have it change next patch.

I think the documentation of the changes is plenty 'guide' enough - read what changes and find your own way through. Also Civilopedia helps as it's pretty much up-top with the mod now.

A full complete guide might be a bit much to ask for whilst it is still in progress I admit. But a general hints and tips should be useful. Play experience is all well and good, but its possible to not realize things that seem obvious to someone else whilst playing.

You were complaining first about the AI difficulty and i was simply giving you the hint, that the hardcoded AI advantages are not the same at the same difficulty.
If your playing former immortal difficulty, the AI have the same advantages at Prince in Vox.
So you are now playing your former difficulty.

Oh, absolutely. Took me a good dozen games to have a basic grasp of all the changed major mechanics (like corporations, how religion, civ-state diplomacy and wonder requirements operate, getting a basic idea of each civ's uniques, victory condition changes etc.).

I would suggest playing a 'slow' game, going for the victory that's been the best for you in the past and basically spending half the time reading - tooltips and civilopedia, bit by bit. (...and if you're like me, realizing an hour later that you just spent that hour reading the history of Spain and France, original thought long gone...)

I will keep that in mind. I don't usually enjoy playing Civ 5 alone. But it might be worth it, just to get better at the game.

sorry mate, but that part about tooltips and civpedia is just not true. often you can find there info, but more often no consequent link to additional info about that. there are things how they are, but not explained how they work.

edit: its also little hard concentrate on game itself and new mechanics, when u suffer pair of minor bugs which misslead your attention to another problems.

I always advice a first tutorial run. Pick an easy difficulty, three or four lower than you are used to, and try a scientific victory, for this is usually the longest. After you get familiar/confused with so many changes, go to the Strategy section. If you cannot answer your doubts there or in the Civipedia, then ask. Player Funak has an Ask me anything thread, and he is glad to answer any educated question.

No. They are questions about whether to work only forest tiles or a mix of farms and mines.

but that is good question for newbies as they cant know what is getting bonuses with tech progress/ infrastructure and its pretty hard find and remember all those tech bonus yilds. for me im still not sure what to do if i get some decent mix of land.
