Just when you thought you knew all the game mechanics...

This is actually insane. I didn't know Scythia were THAT good at religion.

Oh yes. You can use it to spread Bronyism quite easily.

I had great fun playing as her in the Holy Whatsits multiplayer scenario, using the God of War pantheon. There really wasn't much contest.

Yeah it does. Scythia and the Aztecs both are surprisingly fun to play for religious victories because they 1) both have small faith bonuses in their uniques and 2) have combat bonuses that ALSO apply to theological combat. So Scythia can snowball-of-death into enemy missionaries and heal up every time while spreading religion very effectively, while the Aztecs can hoard enough luxuries so that their apostles become strong enough to defeat enemy inquisitors on their own territory. Using units powerful enough to defeat their supposed hard-counters is quite entertaining.

The War of Religion policy (+4 combat strength when fighting civilizations that follow other religions) also applies to theological combat. I think any ability that doesn't specify a type of unit apply to all units that use combat, regardless of the type of combat.

that's actually insane. It means Scythia has the best religious units (they're not as strong as Monty's but they regenerate upon killing missionaries)

Does Phillip's combat bonus vs heretics apply to theological combat as well? Does Teddy's?

Teddy's +5 combat strength on his home continent does apply, I believe, but I have less experience seeing that since I've usually overrun my home continent with my religion very quickly, and I've only ever played America like twice.

Phil's definitely applies, he's an annoying opponent to browbeat into submission and fun to do the browbeating with. It makes spreading his religion to a foreign city easier if you have an apostle (preferably with Debater) following a conquistador who then bumps into a missionary or guru. This makes Crusade even better for Spain, but also somewhat subverts his ability to auto-convert foreign cities when they get conquered. But it can help start the conquest in the first place, so there is that.

...holy wow... Suddenly I want to do a religious victory as Teddy Roosevelt for the giggles.

Wait, what? I knew about the Scythia thing, but I did not know about the Aztecs as well.

I wonder if this is an intended feature, or just an oversight by the developers. I'm thinking the latter.
