Hi all,

I hope someone has a solution. I've looked through the tech section but I didn't see anything similiar so if I am asking the same thing someone else did I apologize.

I have Civ 4 installed on my D: drive. So I put the Warlods in the DVD drive, it pops the install screen, I press Install, it asked for language, I choose English. Then the install shield comes up saying it's preparing to install then I get the following message:Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is not installed properly. Please reinstall and then retry the Sid Meier's Civilization 4: Warlords Installation.

The problem is I have never had problems running Civ 4 from the D drive, that is where I install all my games. And no, installing Civ 4 on C: is not an option. The install should be able to find the location of my correctly and official version of Civ 4.

Is this an Install shield problem? And if so how can it be fixed?

My game is not pirated. I bought it at Best Buy. It is a fully legal copy of the game.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

Apparently, Warlords cannot see (in registry or elsewhere) that you have vanilla installed. By reinstalling, the entries in the registry or elsewhere will be recreated, thus, Warlords should be able to find them and proceed with installation.

I'm having the same problem. I've uninstalled Civ IV with the intention of re-installing but the installer says it's still there and won't do anything.

I assume there's something stuck in the registry that shouldn't be there? Anybody know what key it is?

I think I got things under control. I got puzzled by the fact that the auto.exe install button lead to the ATI control panel and never seemed to install the game. So I went into the CD itself and launched setup.exe which installed just fine.

I'm updating to 1.6.1 and don't expect any more difficulties.

I'm having the same problem here as the first guy who posted! I HAVE the special edition to civ4 bought way back in 05. Just recently bought warlords this week, and found out that I have the above problem, it won't install and gives that same error as this guy. Called tech support and all, uninstalled and reinstalled the dang games in safemode even! SAME thing happens. Returned the warlords and got a new warlords cd, tried installing, same problem, so I figure it's the CIV4 game itself or so. I HAVE installed mods in the past, total realism and the fall from heaven2. Both I have uninstalled and deleted everything I know of that has to do with the game when I uninstalled everything, except for registry stuff because I don't like messing with it cause I have NO idea what I'm doing. So if anything is messed up in there, I have NO clue. There is ALSO another glitch, that I havn't payed attention to before because I always thought the game, since I could play it, was OK. But when I play civ4, there is NO options menu, I click on options in the advanced options menu, and nothing happens, I can also click on it when in game and nothing happens, anyone know why? I would appreciate any help with this, I don't wish to return the warlords of course, but I don't want a dead game I payed 30bucks for. I have about 20days left till I have to return it. I'm still waiting for techsupport from 2k to give a reply, been a week with no answer, they passed it on to the higher techs, so any help from anyone would be appreciated and maybe someone else has had this problem and would know what to do? thanks for the help!

update, I installed the game on another computer, civ4 & warlords, everything works fine! so it's NOT the cds. It's my computer, for some reason it won't recognize that civ4 is installed, but yet it's there! How is this possible anyone? I can stick the cd in the computer that works, and the menu box comes up on the screen (PLAY, README, EXIT) but on my other computer, SAME cds installed!! it'll have (INSTALL, README, EXIT) but the game is already installed!!, what could be the problem? anyone??, I tried to find some kind of difference with the game program file folders, but didn't come up with anything noticeable. I really have NO clue what the problem is, so please help :)

yet ANOTHER update, I found something that's different than the other computer in its registry, goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE , then software, then firaxis games, then just click on sid meier's civilization 4 , there a lil name in the right of the WORKING game, called "INSTALLDIR REG_SZ C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4" that< does NOT appear in my none working game computer, would anyone know why? and how do I fix this? uninstalling and installing does NOTHING, I did it so many freegin times, safe mode, different dvd drive, cleaned my computer out as much as I can. But why didn't the installation put this thing in the registry anyways? I don't really wanna mess with the thing, don't wanna screw anything up, again, help! :D

oh my gosh, I just fixed the dang problem and it was simple! the above registry thingy^ I just added into my computer, and it fixed EVERYTHING, game plays fine, screen comes up with the play written and not install, warlords installed nicely, got into the game and even found the options menu to work! freegin amaaaazing, one lil line caused all this. I STILL don't get why this wasn't done in the first place from the installation. Would ANYONE know why? I'm beginning to wonder now if other games of mine even though I can play them, if I wanna add an expansion or something, if it's screwed!? anyone know? even though the problem is solved, doesn't mean I know a THING of why it happened and I could have OTHER problems that I don't even know about, I hope not. But I hope this helps others who may have this problem also. Thanks all!

Hi,

My problem is slightly different to the others, I have Civ 4 installed on my PC, i recently uninstalled Warlords to install an internet game called "Everquest" (Free-trial version) and whenever i try to re-install Warlords, it gets to as far as to which language i would prefer, then my PC begins installing Everquest instead of Warlords so when i exit the installation of Everquest i get an error saying Warlords installation aborted! So weird!

Any help would be great

Been playing Civ4 BTC almost every day since I purchased it when it came out... Love the game. Works great with my older laptop, running Windows XP. I just purchased a new laptop, running Vista. I am getting the same message as the other postings while it is installing... "civilization 4 is not installed properly". As mentioned, this is a new laptop, therefore Civ4 BTS has never been installed. Anyone have any ideas on how to correctly get this installed on Vista. I having withdraws and would like to get back to my obsession. Regards.

Maybe a silly question but did you install vanilla first? :p Because BTS is an expansion the original Civ4 has to be installed prior to installing BTS.

I have played BTS so long that I forgot about the original... Found the original disc and it installed just fine. Then, installed BTS without any issues.
Thanks!
