There are so many water maps that are slightly different - continents, small continents, archipelago, etc But yet there isn't a single land only map?

Suggested land map types:
Mesopotamia - A handful of long rivers, and few mountains.
Great Plains/Steppe - Wide open spaces with relatively few lakes and rivers.
Central Valley - Rivers and plains in the middle with more mountains on the edges of the map.
North and South - Mountains and tundra in the north. Temperate hilly middle. Many rivers and rain-forests in the south.

I like the idea behind it especially the idea of a Mesopotamia style of map with many rivers and a Valley style map.

As for a Great Plains/Steppe map the only way I would like to see that is if they added some kind of steppe or plateau feature to the game. Otherwise I feel like the map would be kind of be plain and boring looking assuming it wouldn't be covered by rainforest or woods either.

The plains map in civ5 was essentially forest/jungle in the eastern slice, large plains + rivers in the center, an ocean on the southeast edge, and hills turning to mountains (the rockies) on the western slice.

There was a mesopotamia map too iirc. I remember rolling dutch and having an absolute polder kingdom on all the floodplains.

I'm not sure how that style would work for districts though. Like if you spawned in the flat plains area, you'd have nothing for campuses. Etc.

So it was a map based off of the Great Plains in the U.S. then that didn't change from game to game?

The layout of the map was broadly fixed. The features I described were always present. the exact layout of tiles and resource and rivers would change from game to game though, so it was semi randomized. Civ4 had this map too iirc.

Great Plains/Steppe (either or). Is a bit tricky with Campus/holy site adjacency. Obviously there would still be rivers and lakes and some mountains. Just not a TON of them like most maps.
