what about a information-era ranged unit?

I just don't want the ranged unit line to become obsolete as soon as you reach the information era. a mod that adds this unit as an upgrade for the Machine Gun and this unit alone, a bit like Shadow's Modern Infantry mod.

I disagree. Units don't have to have an upgrade in every era. All unit classes have gaps in eras.

Specifically for ranged units, they are always at an advantage. They can attack at range 2 and don't get attacked in return unlike melee combat. They can also kite melee units by moving away then firing at them.
