What do the arrows mean?

I noticed that there are three arrows in a triangular shape beside the name of most of my opponents in the main screen where the scores are being displayed. What do they mean? And what does the spy symbol mean as well? It only appears in front of some of my opponents names. And does the religious symbols beside the opponents name mean that that is their particular state religion? Thanks so much for your help.

Foreign Trade routes. They are connected to your trade network. Either by land, river, or ocean (with astronomy). They'll go away with Merchantilism, which has no foreign trade routes. Same for when the AI adopts Merchantilism (the triangle goes away).

Oh, and yes, the religious symbol is their state religion. That too goes away with Free Religion.

The spy symbol shows when you have an advantage in espionage points against a civ: to see the actual values, mouse over the leader in the scores panel and look at the popup at screen bottom left. Oh, and do use the espionage screen to amend the allocation of your EPs as and if you wish.
