What doesn prefix "asz" mean?

I am new for Python, I found there is prefix 'asz' or 'sz' in python files, does anyone tell me what different about 'asz' and 'sz'?

It's a spill over from some C++ naming conventions. 'sz' is a zero-terminated string and 'asz' is an array of them. More generally, it's called "Hungarian Notation":

By the way, do you know how to show Chinese characters in civ4?
I tried a lof of ways, but it seems that civ4 python only support iso-8859-1, do you have any idea?

Until now, I did something as below:
I modified the XML file to use UTF-8 charset and save in ITF-8 format, then I specified a Unicode font in theme file, but civ4 still didn't show any chinese characters.

That is correct. If you want to use the characters on civ flags, you can make them as dds files.
