What I wonder is what exactly (put shortly) makes SMAC-X different from the original SMAC?

And is SMAC-X a "build on" or does it work on it's own?

And finally, is SMAC-X worth buying if you have the original SMAC, and if is it hard to come by? ... Living in Finland with no credit card:confused:

smac -x adds 7 new factions, a faction editor to help make custom ones (do not other though, just go to networknode.org and dowload some) additional technologies and secret projects. Two of the faction are aliens (same species) implacably hostile to each other. Most of the new technoloies are connected with the alien. You can still only play with 7 factions. You can use the old 7, the new 7, or mix them any way you want, and use custom factions.
The game has been out of stock for PC for over a year. You can still get it for Mac. Only used copies for PC are availabe on places like ebay.

Hm, sounds interesting. Would be nice to play it, but if it's out of stock for PC, then I probably just have to keep my eyes open if they'll make more of them. The e-bay thing feels so complicated. Or perhaps with some luck I could find a used copy of the game in Finland. You never know:)

Cheers!

Neither a Google nor an Altavista search gave any results for "networknod.org." Do you have a better address?

On edit: Never mind, I did some checking and discovered the site is http://www.networknode.org/.

oops...."spellchecker module malfuction!"And I corrected your URL where you put a / after the www insted of a .

the only really old expansion to a game I've seen advertised on Amazon.com for $80 due to it's Rarity!

Who else here want's a second release?!

Du you think a second release would be possible?

That's something a sometimes think about. Cheap second releases would probably lower piracy occurances. It's so annoying when good games are unavailable. Bad games disappear och become freeware. But I'm convinced that re-releases of good games would sell.

I'd really like to buy cross-fire. But for the time being I'll have to be content with my vanilla version.

Some games should regularely be re-released. And every now and then updated so that they work with newer hardware:)

Or Copywrite laws for Computer programs should be changed.... but that's a totally seperate debate.....

SMAC-X is an abomination that ruins the magic of SMAC. I have Alien Crossfire, but I play SMAC without it simply as I hate the new factions, the aliens, new technologies and the fungus artillery etc.

This was a comforting answer:D I've almost given up hope. I love my SMAC the way it is anyway.
