what is a pitboss?

I checked the newbie questions and the F.A.Q. and i either missed it or just couldn't find it...

But i'm hearing so much about it and i'm a new civ player and i have no clue what it is...

I think it's kinda half way between Simultaneous Moves MP and Play by email.

Basically, one person acts as a server. Each player connects to the server and plays their turn in order. I think there might be a time-limit of 24 hours to play your shot though you might be able to change this.

A lot of "maybes" and "Kindas" in there. If any could tell more i'd be interested, as my mate has just gone to mauritius and we're looking to play a game that's faster than PBEM.
