I was just playing gotm 15 when I noticed something on the map
in several spots it said open. Open what?

sorry for triple post but now conquest has appeared. Did anyone have this thing when they played gotm 15

They're the different classes of game: Open, Conquest, and Predator. They were identifiers in certain GOTMs, added as "resources" that didn't actually do anything but there so that the class of game could be identified easily.

Ah. I just figured that out too but I have conquest and open on the map or is that also normal

GOTM does use those three specialty resources to distinguish game classes, but the classification system was not in place as early as GOTM15. (Nor should they be visible, typically, much less in multiple places on the map simultaneously.) At that time, only one game was offered, and I believe it used out-of-the-box vanilla civ. You must be using a resource file from a later game, after the mods began to be added.

I suspect (but I'm not an expert) that what's happening is that the three specialty resources are taking up slots that *should* be occupied by something else -- you may be seeing 'open' instead of game or silks, for example.

For a more expert opinion, PM either ainwood or AlanH with the problem and they should be able to figure out how best to fix it.

Im fine with not fixing it, its just that its hard to tell where they are and it also looks weird

I'm wondering about that whale's tail sticking up out of the tundra in the lower left of the second shot.

I think the specialty resource files ran from GOTM 17 through 25, although I'm not sure about the second number. There were two additional luxuries available during this time as well, and a couple other bonus resources I think.

Oh, yeah, now I look closer -- you're almost going to have to fix it. I see rubber in the ancient age, the aforementioned whale in tundra, and oysters due north of Thebes. All the resources are misindentified.

Let me ask one. What is that tool in the top of the picture? I never seen that before.

It looks neat, what does it do?

Its called powerbar. go to the downloads section/utilities and youll find it. Basicly you cheat or make the game easier for yourself. I like to use it sometimes when I just want beat the snot out of a certain civ

OK, thanks, I don't want to be tempted to cheat. I thought it mite have some Mapstat type info or shorthand.

Yeah but consider: they have no nukes when you produce 30 a turn and heck, at that time they probably cant. All in all thoug its not a good idea to cheat since you become dependent
