After some (many) false starts, I have managed to develop a strategy for winning at Regent (at least for the Japanese, at least on small maps). I had to abandon a cherished obsession with getting the Great Library (uses up too many shields that could go to swordsmen for early expansion) but now I am in position to win just about any way I want. I have about half the world, am way ahead in tech, to get the highest score, should I 1) Keep conquering (I am about five turns away from being the first to tanks and the Germans, one of two remaining civs have helpfully declared war on me and I had a mutual protection agreement with the Indians, the other) and get a domination victory 2) keep going til I can build the spaceship 3) Build the UN (I have a leader squirreled away) and win diplomatically (unless all three get to vote, I can presumably get the Indians' vote, or if conditions change, have enough to give away safely to charm the Germans)? How important is winning early? Domination would clearly be the quickest.
