Alpha Centauri : The Ascended / The Descended

I was thinking the story might continue with what happens after they ascended.
Did they redescend, to take human form once more ?
Or if some of those which didn't try to ascend might have left in a space ship.

It would be extremely difficult to craft a good game based on playing after transcendance.

IF there will be another Alpha Centauri game, it will either be a remake (Civilisation storyline does not change from game to game either), or an alternate Storyline: This first one was "Splintered earth survivors land on an planet that slowly becomes sentinent." The next could be "Splintered earth survivors land on a planet, that is on the edge of an Apokalipse itself." or "...that makes humans develop mystical powers (more then the Psi allready did) and slowly mutates them into ... something else."
...Okay, that's a guess, but I don't see any other possibility.

However, how likely is a second Alpha Centauri anyway?

Yes, like beta centaury, or something like tau cetii or sigma sagitarius. After all, K2 can't have the rights of the words "Sid Meier". So Sid Meier Sigma Sagitarius sounds good enough.

Perhaps they could call it SMBC : Sid Meier's Beta Centaury, like Urederra suggests.
That would be perhaps a 2nd spaceship that left earth, after the first one.
Or that the inhabitants of the colonized moon around the earth would rather run off somewhere together, then recreate the wars of the different fractions that live on earth.

Or it could be a spaceship of people who came from alpha centauri, but didn't feel like trying the ascention.

That's why you can use flash backs and forwards, to keep your story going.

However, how likely is a second Alpha Centauri anyway?

Based on their fanbase, I'd say, not so unlikely as it may seem.

The Epilogue of a transendace win takes place Millions (IIRC) of years after the game had ended, with the transcended minds of the colonists engaging in various megaprojects arround the system, and sending a small expedition back to see what had become of Earth (Something about a Nano-Civilization, whatever that means.)

Kind of hard to follow up on such a story.


No, SMAC2 would probably just be a redux or spinoff of the original. Perferably dropping Planet from SMAC in favour of some new alien world, or adding in the ability to avoid the Awakening of the Planetmind by whiping the whole thing out. Some people like to go on and on about how mankind is a Virus, so why not let us rip that giant fungal brain appart from the inside?
