Hi everyone,

Thanks to everyone that replied to my last Gettysburg question regarding the patch.

Anyway I've been playing the random scenarios because they're new and different everytime however I've been frustrated a few times - here's what happened.

Playing as the confederacy the union controlled the victory objective - the one the game claims "You must hold this point by the of the battle". I took heavy casualities but by the time the battle ended I had control of the objective, the union troops surrounded and demoralized, their artillery routed and my troops tightening the noose around their position.

Hoewever all of a sudden the battle ended and to my surprise it was a "Marginal Union Victory".

I couldn't beleive it! I took more casualities and they even had some useless objective somewhere off to the side so their score was SLIGHTLY higher than mine. but WE had the objective? Isn't THAT a victory?

So does this mean that the winner of the battle is determined by SCORE? Or by taking the objective?

Thanks in advance

It's based on score, iirc. The score is based on both casualties and objectives held. While taking the objective is important, so is not getting a lot of your men killed off ;)

Oh. :(

That doesn't seem very fair. They're not REAL people after all.

Yes, and the game is based on REAL history. Do you believe you had won if you had the position, but only one man left defending it, if it had been in real life? ;o)
Good that they had mannaged to make realistic judgement of who had won.
((I hadn't played this new version, but I had played one Gettisburg game from back in the computer game stone age. ))

Perhaps you know that before there was produced militaric games for fun, they made simulators for education.
