is there NO 'old DOS' game compilation / bundle
available outside anywhere anymore?

It's very very rare at the very least.

Are there any sites that have it?

If you mean free downloading, then no, not any sites that are legal.

Is it abandonware?

No.

How about Civnet and whatnot?

They are not abandonware either. So if you want them you are going to have to buy them.

just 2 people did bid against each other...

SOLD FOR US $20.57 ...

that's REALLY cheap for this collection of rare stuff.

On occation I see Civ1 (different versions) in local games shops. If they don't have it, it might be possible for them to order it.

would be interesting to know the distribution company.
maybe there is a chance to get it regularily if we would know who now has the license (for example in the u.s.a. or the netherlands)

Atleast in here (Finland) it's possible to ask the game stores to order something for you if it's not going to be released in Finland any time soon but it has been released in, for example the States. :)

Maybe a quick question, but i've been searching for a 'real' original civ 1 version and i very much doubt it was released on cd-rom in 1991 (or 1990?). I bought a Civ 1 package inlcuding 4 disks and a booklet of 128 pages, technical supplementand hints & enhancements.

Could that possible be a first release of the game?

it looks like the original package: 4 disks in a box with a brown booklet.

the VERY 1st PC DOS version will have this start screen:

this is the version that 'allows' the

(this is important for MAP 'designers' too!) -
if you choose the "ENEMY MOVE" OPTiON in the game
you can see your AI opponents movements too.
