Hi, i started a new game this evening and it happened to me again that after getting domestication and trading some world maps I found out that there are no horses in the hole world... i am not sure if that happens because of a bug, or because of the settings i use... normally i like to play medium map with 16 civs, with aggresive AI to have lots and lots of conflicts :D :D

but this is the second time that i have to reset a game because there are no horses in the pangea :(

Doesn't sound right to me, I've ALWAYS had horses...

I haven't yet seen a horse-free map, though I don't play on those settings. Are you using SmartMap, or one of the other excellent alternate map scripts? If not, you could always plant some of equine beasties with worldbuilder.

Another thought that occurs is that perhaps not all of the civs you traded with have the tech that lets them 'see' the horses. If that were the case, common sense would say that their map-info couldn't include the horses since their mapmakers wouldn't know about them. I don't know if it works like that in the game, though.

hmmm... i don't think so, 'cause even if makes little sense, usually you can see all the resources in the map, even if you have not explore it, or if you did and was before discovering some new tech, then all the resources automatically appear in the map...

it would be more challenging to have to be exploring continuosly the map to find about new resources you've just discovered...

well, i've never tried that smatmap utilities... but i've already read a lot about them, maybe i shoud give it a try :)

thanx!

hmm this is odd. Maybe we should add in a resource check for all of the strategic resources, not just the important ones (ie mithril reagents and inscence)

I have ecounter maps without horses too. But then, I play crazy fantasy map. And in these maps, it seems possible that some resources might be missing. In fact, in one particular game which I just played recently, there is also no gold and only one copper. So, I had to use transmute on this single copper/gold I have (only one on the map).

I play that map too, often on the Irrational or Crazy setting.

I have never seen any resources omitted. However, they put them in the strangest places (Bananas on ice tiles for example) and often in amazing groupings. I saw one civ with 9 resources in its city radius.

One thing I have noticed about Horses on this map with these settings is that almost always they are on a Jungle tile meaning you will likely not have mounted units until mid-game when you can get to Sanitation to clear the jungles. By then, you might already have access to Rangers and the like.

Never noticed it but....I never researched any tehs from the mounted branch tree in all my FfH history. [not played Hippus yet] What for? Not teh is required and I like more to play with casters or just steady melle units.
I would propose to make an requirement [an AND requirement] for some other tehs like Trade to require some tehs from the mounted branch.

Having 9 resources on a crazy fantasy map is nothing to shout about. It happens all the time and can easily go higher that I never bother to count.

that could be useful if there was a spell to transform cow into horses

That would be cool. Maybe a transformation spell to turn orcs into pigs *Grin*

Post a screen shot here next time you see it. I would love to see that!:)
