Where have the Theaters gone?

Why introduce the Zoo if they are not using the Theater for something else? Theater surely has more historical significance, and Printing Press isn't an absurd location for it in the tech tree.. unlike zoo..

I assume because they couldn't think of a logical distinction between Amphitheaters and Theaters and why the former should have a great work slot and not the latter.

Zoos started to rise in prominence around 1750, which is obviously later than 1454, but it probably came at a good time for balance reasons and they probably didn't feel like changing it. Timeline-wise, economics might make more sense. If you wanted an appropriate tech, Scientific Theory or Biology would make a lot of sense, but I can understand not wanting to wait that long (and Scientific Theory is good enough already).

The other question is why did Theaters give +3 happy, while Zoos give 2 happy only.

I don't like how BNW nerfed expansion with not only having both gold, happiness and culture harder to get, but also -% science per city.

Well I hope they change things to make the game at look a little more sensible. Zoos at printing press is just confusing.

They nerfed both Theaters (besides changing the name, they reduced +3 happy to +2) and Stadiums (+4 happy reduced to +2).

Zoos are fun :D May not make sense for printing press, but I don't mind them in the game.

Also, happiness was nerfed because it was too abundant in G&K. A single mercantile city-state and you never need to worry about happiness ever again.

Probably partly because of the number of happiness traits in the ideology system, which give way more than the former policy trees used to give.

I agree with the lost heir to the French Crown. :)

Go back to G&K and check the picture for a Theatre.

Now go and look at the Amphitheatre..

See it? They're pretty much the same building.

And seeing as the Theatre building woudl be suited for something with a work of art slot, I think it was a good and non-confusing way to replace it with a Zoo.
