So yea.. I spent 3 hours tonight workin on a really cool map on the in-game map editor and saved it after I was done. When I goto load it up it doesnt wanna load in game or through the map editor... im so pissed! is there any way to retreive this work?

if you want to post the file on the forum i could take a look at it. or you could open upthe worldbuilder save file in Notepad and make sure there are no errors or missing tags (for full list there is a guide in the Tutorials forum)

hmm, i really abandoned the error checking in MapView but there are working checks for easy errors, give it a try! (link is in my signature)

Try loading the map view mapview and saving it again, there´s a chance my parsing doesn´t care about the error and the error will be fixed if you just open and immediately save the file again. (make sure you make a backup of your map before)

Furthermore try to replace paste all the plot info into a working map so you can isolate the error to the plot reagion or the player, map, team regian etc.
If the error is in the plot regian you can use MapView to resize the map (mayb 50%), save it and if it loads you´ll know the error is the part of the map that´s been cut off. Repeating that procedure you could find the error pretty quick..

good luck

man im so glad somebody else is annoyed at that blody mapbuilder. its so unfrendly!
i want save maps as simple "map files" so i can use the same map on with different scenarios, with different numbers of ai players, and you dont seem to be able to SIMPLY save it as a map file - you have to save it with a scenario attached.
For example, I've got a cool "earth" map that Id like o be able to open from the single player game menu, so the type of game and number of players can be as if you were playing on standard single player game.

(sorry - long rant I know, but Im just as pissed!

i think this could be modded, you had to put a screen between scenario selection like when you start a normal game that would let you define the mapsettings and just use the plot data (or mayb more, depends on how fancy that screen would be).

I think this would be awesome, you should probably rephrase that and start a seperated thread for it.

glad you like it!

I think its a simple enough request from the world builder!

any idea on creating a ".py" file? Ive found these in the folder.. is this something you do by altering the code?

The problem I have is that Im not an instinctive programmer, and comfortable with inputting code. Id much prefer to create coo scenarios / maps through a piece of software that enables me to amend game functions visually.

but most frustratingly, why cant I simply save maps in world builder?!!!! we could do this in Civ 3!

I created my Caribbean map from scratch with the worldbuilder and it works okay, so I doubt the editor is causing trouble. Hope you get it to work anyway =).
